Default New to NYC

Guys,

I recently moved to Manhattan from the UK in December with my job (and to be with my girlfriend here). I was a C5 owner in the UK and had to sell it I don't think my girlfriend fully understands the magnitude of the loss of my 'other' Baby!

If anyone is in the area and wants to hook-up to talk about Vettes over a beer, give me a shout

Cheers,
Ian.

Welcome to NYC Ian!

We should all get together and introduce ourselves one of these days. Maybe after work, we can all get together and meet up. We've got a nice big crew that regularly hangs out and goes on cruises, etc. That's my electron blue coupe in Eamador's sig after one of our Bear mountain/hooters runs.

Are you planning to buy a used C5 in the future?

welcome Ian ...

Hopefully you can find a replacement over here for your lose.

We meet in the city sometimes for a few drinks and dinner. As a matter of fact it must be that time again so lets plan something.

I don't think that was me... the only speed threads I posted were a few 0-60 runs and ET's. Having said that, I did see 160mph on the HUD (on a private test track, of course )

Cheers,
Ian.

Would be great to all meet-up... I'm in Manhattan on the East side at 123rd and occassionally work from the MetLife building in Midtown on days that I'm in the office.

V.nice EB Coupe... love that colour, esp. with the polished wheels

Never been to a Hooters, but beer and cuties sounds like my idea of fun!

I'd love to get another C5... got the $$ from the sale of my old C5 still sitting in the bank. There are a few things that I've got to think about given my current situation though... firstly, my GF would kill me if I bought a Vette. She has two kids and is firmly in 'family car' mode... if it doesn't have 4-doors, she's not interested! However, I did manage to negotiate with her yesterday and she agreed that I could have a Vette if I also bought a family car (maybe a cheap 7-series or Audi?) Personally, I like Lincoln Town Cars (don't laugh!), but the GF insists she's not riding around in a taxi! Lot of car for the money though and, judging by the miles on some of the cabs round here, they're pretty reliable.

Another issue is insurance and the TERRIBLE state of NYC roads! I don't think I could relax driving a C5 around Manhattan... so many potholes to dodge! On the insurance front, I just got an online quote from eSurance (I think that's what they're called) and it came-out at $2,500 for 6-months!!!! I was paying less than $1k a year back in the UK for fully comprehensive insurance. Over here, I guess I'd be classed as a new driver, same as a 16 year-old kid cuz I doubt my 12-years of driving experience and claim-free history in the UK counts as anything over here

Cheers,
Ian.

Welcome to Big Apple.

I live in Mahattan also. As our Forummates have stated we do go out after work for beer and vettetalk.

Hopefully you can find a new baby soon.

I remain forever hopeful... I will definitely own another C5 / Z06.

Arranging a meet-and-greet sounds good. I'm on the East side of Manhattan at 123rd. My office is in Midtown (MetLife building). I'm free virtually anytime really.

Cheers,
Ian.

Owning a vette in NYC is a pain but we do what we gotta do for our passion. Once you leave manhattan, the roads are much better. That's why we do alot of cruises upstate like around bear mountain or in long island. I live in Queens but work in the city down by Varick St. We have several guys who work in the city as well and live nearby.

If I were you, I'd talk with a few insurance co. and see if they will work with you on the insurance. Its not fair that they give you a quote of a first time driver.

You will also have to think about where to park your vette. A garage space is a must in this crazy town. It won't last long on the streets with everyone playing bumper tag while parking their SUVs. Garage space can be expensive in the city since its so limited.

We have a few forum members like Nabbs and PW001 who live in the city and keep their vettes there so you know its doable.

We definitely should have another forum dinner so we can welcome i_york. Anyone want to make a suggestion (its gotta be at least 10 blocks away from Nabbs place this time).

Oh boy!

Don't mind him i_york, that's F.J.B., the equal opportunity abuser of the group. I was wondering where you were, its been too quiet and civilized here lately. Don't worry i_york, he's a cool guy to hang out with, just keep your gf and small children away from him.

Haha, there doesn't appear to be any shortage of TV's in Manhattan at night, and I'm not talking about the kind that are for sale in Circuit City!

Gimps I'm not so sure about!

Cheers,
Ian.

If you want to get that vette, I suggest you rethink your suggestion. Seeing who you'll be hanging out with will put you in a minivan faster than you can say stow-and-go!

My wife has already forbidden me to hang out with F.J.B.

Hmm, how does he know, that's what I'd like to know!

btw, you must be as busy at work as I am this afternoon! I think bosses of Vette guys should use the CF thread-count as a metric when performing performance appraisals!! haha!
