That's real good to hear about your insurance, but you don't want to start accumulating points.
If you don't intend to go to trial, then all your dealings will be with the PO and the DA. You'll only see the judge when you plead to the charges you've agreed to with the DA.
I've seen DAs handle their court differently. Some DAs tell you to work it out with the PO, and come back to him when you're done. Some DAs talk to you and the PO separately, and offer their own deal to you. Some go back and forth with you. Some say take it or leave it. The size of the docket has a lot to do with it.
As far as bringing the lawyer goes, here are some things to think about:
1) You go with a lawywer:
- The lawyer has been there before. He knows how the court works, he knows the DA, he might know the PO. He knows how to talk to the PO and the DA.
- The DA looks at you, and thinks, "You have a lawyer because you need one."
- The DA knows your lawyer, and before he hears a word, he already has an opinion (good or bad) about what to do with you because of how he feels about the guy.
- The lawyer is an added cost. Will he save you more than you could have gotten on your own?
2) You go without a lawyer:
- You might be a more sympathetic figure to the DA.
- Because you don't know the ropes, you won't know the right thing to say, how to say it, or when to say it. You risk short-changing yourself, and leaving something on the table.
100 mph in 65 you could loose you License for 30-60 days. The number of points isn't the reason. 35 over the limit is. Lazer radar they will not down grade to a lesser speed since lazer is still new in this state.
A lawyer would help you. More then likely they will drop the careless charge.
Same thing happened to me, but this was at night a few years ago. Was around rutgers, in Edison Township on the Turnpike doing 100 ... 2 tickets, one being careless .. I think they just throw it on because of the speed you do. Went to court with laywer (didn't do anything you can't do). They offered to drop 5 poitns speeding to 4 pts, drop the careless and only suspend my license for 15 days or so .... most likely something like that will happen for you ... BUT, with that being said, that was my first speeding ticket, so my insurance did not go up until now, when I got my second ticket ... so hopefully ull just pay the fines and not have any insurance bs.
