Funny about tickets and the money it generates. People have to realize its a business and like any business it must generate revenue and be profitable.
Several months ago I had a officer here in NJ pull me over for "sounding fast" in my old Stang. He wrote me the ticket for obstructing traffic once he realized I wasnt speeding and all my paperwork was legit etc... However my license was previously stolen and there are some points there that shouldnt be there. Long story short he stated he "was cutting me a break". Even thought I had not commited any violatons. I went to court to fight it and guess what. Could not fight it Its a no point ticket with a small fine for a guilty plea. Cop screwed me over based on points on my DL just to generate some fiscal revenue. So I in turn filed a criminal complaint. Official misconduct and harrassment , the prosecutors office agreed after a investigation. He has since taken a plea and been removed from service. I highlight this story not to say cops are all bad. But to highlight that they almost never loose a case , when they do loose its by default. Something technical or they did not appear etc.... Fight the case for sure , get a lawyer for sure. I have used a attorney who is actually a Middlesex county prosector previously. He cant practice within that county which doesnt help you. But the money I saved in points , dmv surcharges and insurance was well worth it. Best of luck to you !!!

I'd like to know more about this. It should be public record so please tell us the officers name and which department so that I can do my own research on your claim.......

I take strong exception to some of your remarks. While I have outlined how the court system works, that does not mean that I approve of it. While, I would be lying if I said that there was NOT pressure on a police officer to go out and write tickets, I found it quite easy to find people speeding 20 miles plus over the speed limit daily. Thus writing legitimate speeding summonses not difficult. I was so leniant that if you were honest with me, you usually got a warning. Your story, if it's true, certainly warrants a complaint about that officer. I also realize that it's sometimes truly difficult to bring one's point across in a typed post on the internet. Personally, I actually loathed writing tickets. Maybe that's why I am a detective now. I found traffic enforcement to be quite boring. On the other hand, some officers get off on traffic enforcement
and are rewarded internally for writing boatloads of tickets. And without going into a hot topic, yes, there are many "cheap" tickets as we refer to them written by what I would like to think of as a "small" percentage of Officers. Again, only knowing the agency that I work for as a reference. I know that when I come for a trial, I have all of my paperwork in order, I used to complete my radar tests daily, and I took exhaustive notes on every stop that I made. I had copies of current certifications on all of my equipment. That is why I was never beaten. Believe this, If what you say is true about that officer, I'd like to personally beat the crap out of him for making us all look bad. BTW, I'd like to know where that happened. I've never heard of a police officer? in NJ fired for that?

Having said that, I still don't think he needs a lawyer! And good luck getting off on a typo or a no show. I have seen defendant and officer alike no show and get a postponment over and over as well as typos testified to and changes made record in court. Believe me, he should just go to court, and if he doesn't like what they offer, postpone and then get a lawyer. No risk, high reward

Sometimes we get carried away in the moment. The original accusation may be the aforementioned. Now with 20-20 hind sight that original post might not have been such a good idea. Since we are all humans who are prone to error, & etc.......... it may be time to put this one to bed.

The original idea of this thread was to advise a member who might have had much too heavy a foot and did not realize where he was (I am giving him quite a bit of latitude here) This is not about bashing the local police, troopers and etc.

Your statement is contradictory. You dont want a signed version , but yet you have attempted to verify this information. How dare you attempt to dwelve into my personal life. THAT doesnt sound right to me !!! As a matter of simply being polite I sent you a PM. I did not have to do that at all !!! Yet you have not told the entire story for the members who have read this post. I spoke of my reluctance to pursue the matter. Of my friends and family on the job in Federal , State & local law enforcement. How they pushed the matter of doing whats right. You're a humorous man to call it an accusation , simply because your contacts cant find it. Or because I wont give you specific info you do not need. That includes fort94z , I regret mentioning my experience as it did not help this conversation. Further I hope you realize that my experience being different from yours does not make it false. 25yrs on the job and retired is a job well done. Its not a easy job and some dont ever come home !!! I would ask that you respect my experience , I respect yours.

Well the bottom line here is that a person was speeding and got caught plain and simple. If youare guilty, well I think I already told you what I'd do.

I appreciate the advice and facts given here by our current and former Police Officers.

This has gone on long enough, time to put it to bed.

If you want to post an update after the court date, that will be fine. I amd interested(as we all are) in teh outcome.
