Default Question for C6 DVL.

Did the auto industry shoot itself in the foot with the "employee discount" that everyone was giving in early fall. I have noticed reduced activity with new car additions to my customers insurance policies. My office is directly across from a Dodge dealership and I talk to the salesmen, every one I talk to says that the activity is way behind last year, it seems that poeple are waiting for the next great discount. So what do you think, are your sales off?

Its a dodge dealer of course sales are down

Honestly I think the low end $ new cars are doing ok. Many people just dont want to spend or cannot afford a new american car, but for a lesser price can buy a korean car or other Asian market car for a fraction of the cost and still get all the goodies that they want.

I would too like to know how KIA is doing...

Check out this article:

Even though Chrysler sales are down, GM and Ford have even more unsold cars and trucks sitting around:

Default Sales

December is traditionally a very slow month all around,at least before x-mas.Hyundai and Kia are doing well compared to the market overall. In answer to the original question...of course they shot themselves in the foot!!They moved metal, but lost all kinds of money doing it AND moved up people's buying time a few months. There are cars out here that are still less expensive than ALL of those cars that were available at "employee"pricing. At my dealership(I work here, don't own it!)it's dead this month so far.Last month Hyundai overall outsold last year by a few units.

I wonder how the used car industry is doing now. Figure you can buy new for what some of these used cars are going for.

What GM was they shot them selves in the foot and Ford and Chrysler had no choice but to the same......

The three kept extending the program for 3 months or so, but had no clue how to end it and keep the sales moving.

GM decided to reduce the msrps for 2006, but that didnt work, cause consumers want to see a discount. When the employee discounts, I thought we, Kia are going to get killed in sales, but believe it or not it did not effect our sales. A Ford minivan equipped like our Kia Sedona was still $3,000 more after all discounts.

I think its slow because (and this is only how I see it here in NY) there are no lease returns coming back........

......... We had no leasing in NY in the last 3/4 years, and dealers put all the customers in Baloon notes for 48/60 months, so there is less of turn over of cars that should have been due. And those that didn't go for baloon payments signed up for 72 and 84 month loans !!! .... people are just stuck in cars, the owe too much money on their current cars....

.......... and I gets worse, all the used cars dealer auction here in North East are very low in inventory, cause all the cars are going South, There are no cars in the south (Katrina washed them all away). It seems every year this business is getting harder and harder.

So when does this result in cheap and abundant C6's, CTS-V's, and the like?
