Family Says Car Dealership Pressured Elderly Woman Into Buying
POSTED: 5:45 pm EST February 22, 2006
SANFORD, Fla. -- A Central Florida family claims a car dealership crossed the line when it sold an elderly woman four new cars in just four years. Action 9's Todd Ulrich found the contracts were packed with extras and the family felt helpless to protect their loved one.

It's a struggle to walk, but 77-year-old Jean Peltz rides in style. A 2004 Deville is one of four Cadillacs she bought or leased within just four years from Massey Cadillac of Sanford. According to Jean, she went for an oil change and left with a new car.
"That's how they hit women I guess, and I fell for it," she said.
At times, Jean thought salesman Sam Bayoumi pressured her into buying three of those new cars. But moments later, Jean blamed herself.

"I just liked it, it was a new car, and I got it," she said.
Relatives said Jean is quickly confused. Jean's closest relative, Bob Gordon, has power of attorney over her finances.
"She was just an easy target for these folks," he said.
He felt she lost nearly $100,000 in trade-ins and contracts packed with extras like extended warranties, gap insurance and a protection package.
Attorney Bill Abruzzino said the family hired him to protect Jean.
"It seems like, to me, they added every single available option and Jean didn’t realize that," he said.
He sent a certified letter to Massey Cadillac warning the dealership to leave Jean alone.
"Basically do not contact her, don't talk to her," he said.
But relatives said they were stunned by what happened two months later when Jean returned for an oil change. They said the salesman not only approached Jean, but then followed her home behind the wheel of another new Cadillac he wanted her to lease.
The family claims salesman Sam Bayoumi was targeting her again.
"Why did you follow her home with a car?" Action 9's Todd Ulrich asked Bayoumi.
"Because she asked to drive the car home to see if it would fit in her garage and it better be off the camera, mister," he said.
Relatives said that doesn't make any sense, since Jean already parked a Cadillac in her garage.
In a letter, the dealership wrote, "Ms. Peltz never expressed dissatisfaction" and the accusations are completely untrue. Massey Cadillac is part of Sonic Automotive, which was accused of deceptive practices in a class action lawsuit. The pending suit alleges its Florida dealers added theft protection charges without telling buyers.
According to her attorney, Jean said "no' when the salesman followed her home, but he fears a next time.
"If this was my mother, I can't tell you, I don't think I could sit still," Abruzzino said.
Jean's attorney filed complaints with the State Attorney's Office, the Florida attorney general, and the Division of Motor Vehicles. Massey Cadillac has offered to meet with Jean to discuss her complaint.
