Just got back from the DMV...trying to register my '71 B/B. Get this...the title is from MA, but I bought the car from a guy in PA. (Stealership) He FAXed a copy of the bill of sale. Then he mailed me the title. Well the guy at the DMV says he has to keep the title, because it is the only document with an original signature. I say , because CT doesn't issue titles for anything this old and that is the only title I will have for my car. Can you believe this S#!T!!! Is the title worth anything when it isn't in my name?? I have to call the stealership in the a.m. and get the Bill of Sale mailed up here. When I get it...I think I'm gonna just drive the 'Vette to the DMV with the plates from my '00 on it and hope for the best. They said they need to verify the VIN to make sure it wasn't stolen!!!!!
I'm done now the Jack and Coke is starting to kick in!!!
Welcome to the world of big and ridiculous government. It's nice that they want to look out for you.... all the while they're sticking their hands in your wallet and pulling out a bunch of nice fat $20's to verify for YOU that it's your car.
I believe in CT you need a vin varification from the police pcnt to reg a vehicle. There is also a fed title law that from 1978 and up, you need a title, before that, you can sell the car by signing over the "pink slip" aka registration. Proof of ownership is the reg, not a 100% sure though

the bill of sale serves as the title...having been thru dat crap.
I'm gonna keep the MA Title so in the future, if I sell the car, it will still have a clear title. It won't be in my name, but I'll still have it.
Why don't they make exceptions on cars like these, so the owner can retain important documents!!!!!
Keeping the title in someone elses name may create a huga problem when it comes to selling it. Do what CT DMV says on recording ownership. Speak to a supervisor at DMV if you have to

I did...and he agreed with me. The Bill of Sale will still register the car. If it were to create a problem...I'll just tear it up...problem solved!!!
If a car is 10 years old or older Ct no longer requires or issues a title. The one from MA simply isn't needed after the car is registered in CT. As others have said all you need is a Bill of Sale. Cars 10 years old & older no longer have to be inspected in CT, but a vin check is mandatory and it has to be done by DMV. To drive the car there you need temp plates. Take a number bring a sandwich & drink, sit and wait, wait, wait, wait till your number comes up. Don't drive it there on other plates!
It's better then it used to be. They used to put the car up in the air check under it. Needed 2 ID numbers and since many used vettes no longer had the original engines many times they wouldn't registert he car until you drove it to Hartford for an inspection to look on the frame or tranny for a 2nd ID. After WWII the ***** didn't go to South America as many believe, they came to CT to run the DMV.

I registered a 77 I bought in Rhode Island about 6 months ago and I needed the original bill of sale and a copy of the Rhode Island registration. They also inspected the car just to verify the vehicle ID #. I had the original Connecticut title from 1977 but DMV had absolutely no interest in the original CT title.
