Wow, more than five seconds from 1st to 2nd? I know a bunch of people that need to do Level II, III, IV..... tighten it up!
Like I said before, it's EXTREMELY rare for a Level 1 (or 2) student to break 2 minutes. 1:55.3 is spectacular, considering the track record is 1:51 (C6 Z51) by an instructor who runs 10,000+ laps/year (for the last 9 years).
Additionally, all the guys less that 2:05 are VERY fast for Level 1 students. Those are some GREAT times. 2:10 is a very common time for most Level 1 students.

I think that we got such good times because of the instructors and the competition amongst ourselves, it forces you to try and do better.

Having advanced knowledge that you would, in fact, be timed helps too. They don't tell you. When we got our timeslips from level 1, we were all surprised. I'm sure the $50 carrot didn't hurt either.

Actually we didn't discuss time slips at all, your bet was dismissed before we left Jersey as a joke. I didn't think I would even beat a 204, just because I only ran the poconos course once. If I did read it before hand I definetally forgot, I probaly wouln't have let others pass, or jumped into a C5.5. After session 4 on the last day, was when I brought up your losing proposition, it was not the focus or ralleying cry of any one of us. It was assumed that Doug/WW/ or Mike would beat your time, I was just thrilled when I,a non-racer, beat your benchmark level1 time of 204, and my best gave me a #4 rating out of 8. Not that a level 1 204 is bad, like you stated most hit 2:10. I was just impressed that I did it, and surprised myself.(among others)

I trust Doug, WW and Mike have some background in racing? My racing experience is limited to Spring Mountain. I plan on changing this very soon. In fact, I sent Doug a PM to get some info on a SC for my C6.
