I noticed someone already volunteered but I typically run through that area several times in the week. Matter of fact I can blow thru there today on my way from a project site back to the office.

Never heard of that dealer. I looked at a couple of Vettes in that area. I also had a '91 a couple of years back so I'll be somewhat familiar with it. If it looks good, I'd recommend having a local independent mechanic look at it. I'm sure someone hear can recommend one. I may know one....I'll ask around.

Shoot me a PM or an e-mail if you still need a looksy: cjlaw73@yahoo.com

I went by that area today and took a look at and took it for a spin. Couldn't resist a chance to step in a C4 and relive the times I had in my 91.

I am not a mechanic but I can be picky when it comes to cars. Car looked in pretty good shape. Paint was in good condition with the usual scratches under the door handles and I noticed a scratch on the hood piece right above the side gills on the passenger side - where people typically put those side emblems. Looks like they used a small brush and touch up paint. The rubber trim around the car is a little sun-bleached. Looked under the hood and looks like it has some very minor rust. Saw some on the stock headers and also noticed some on the muffler. I would imagine that its age appropriate but it looks to me like the car was driven in the rain occasionally maybe not garage kept its whole life. The interior looked to be in decent shape as well with the usual wear on the side of the driver seat where you get in - my C5 has that wear already at just under 20k. The rest of the leather looked pretty good for its age. The panel housing the controls on the drivers seat was cracked on the left side and might have been on the right as well (sorry I was running late between appointments). The engine ran smooth - no irregular idle. It accelerated smooth and seemed to handle well. The brakes seemed fine but I thought the clutch was grabbing a bit high. Didn't have a chance to get it on the highway but took a couple of sprints on the local road. It might have an aftermarket exhaust - the pipes looked a little bigger than stock but it wasn't at all too loud.

I spoke to Johnathan Burghen at the dealership. Nice guy who seemed to be into cars. The number on his card is (856) 842-0500. Sorry I didn't have my digital camera on me and more time to be more thorough. Maybe someone else can give you a second opinion. Johnathan said the car has been there about 2 or 3 weeks.

Stepping into a meeting right now. I'll check back later and leave you my contact info. in a PM.

Thanks guys. I have recieved so much good advice from everyone here that I'll return the favor whenever I can, plus I only had to go like maybe 10 minutes out of my way to go by there. Taking a Vette out for a quick sprint is a fun use of a lunch break.

Oh and by the way forgot to mention the guy at the dealer said that there is a link on their website: www.richardsonimports.com to get a free Carfax report for that car. The dealer's e-mail is: jburghen@richardsonimports.com

Said they'd be more than willing to assist you in anyway with a remote purchase (bring it to an independent mechanic to look at it, pick you up at an airport). The dealer, Johnathan seemed like a decent guy. Tell him Charlie was your freind that looked at the car for you today. He'll remember me pulling up in my black C5 - as he walked over to me by the car and asked if I needed another Vette.

Dan
Dan,

Outback and Lone Star are only a mile or so away. Just kidding - was my pleasure. Like I said my 1st Vette was a Torch Red '91 6-speed coupe so it brought back great memories. Not to mention my aunt did the same thing for me with my current car which came from Utah. Let me know if you need help with any other arrangements. Where are you coming from? If you are flying in I am not too far at my project site from Philly airport - dealer said he could help you out with that too though...whatever.

Just have them look at that rust I saw and see how far under it extends. Again, not a mechanic. I'd also ask about that clutch. I had an issue with my clutch and pressure plate in my '91. Curious was it the L98 engine?

The paint on the nose looked a little faded but again consistent of what I'd imagine being normal wear. I looked under the nose and those two support arms for the nose didn't look damaged or to make me think anything was replaced. Thats where the mechanic can step in.

I hope it all works out for you. Was a fun ride. Maybe I need to find a Hooters for you to break it in.

Charlie

The rubber trim around the car is a little sun-bleached.

Charlie,

are you sure that it's a '91?

'91 doesn't have the black plastic beltline trim, it should be wide, slightly rounded and body color.

a '91 will have an L98 engine, '92 got the LT-1.

Tom,

I think you got confused. The car I looked at for Dan was a '90, last of the squared up C4s. The car I previously owned was a '91, first of the more rounded C4s that took on the ZR-1 style tailights and a more rounded front. I believe you are correct about the engines though. I think the 300 hsp LT-1 came out in '92. My '91 had the 250 hsp L98 and I think this car did too.
