Default Need NYC info

Hello fellow members.

My family and I will be heading to New york city on vacation this week and I would like to find some good local resturuants. We are staying near central park. We like great steak, italian, and am hoping to find a great pizza joint.

We will be doing a lot of the usual tourist things, but if anybody has some recommendations I would very much appeciate it.

Thanks in advance and cheers from Texas

You need to tell people what you want to spend, there a 1000s of places to eat in and around the city, so do you just want places in midtown, just Manhattan, or any place in the metro area?

Good points

I'd like to keep the total to around $200.00 per meal (steak, italian, or seafood) for 3 people. Midtown or manhattan is preferable, but willing to go further for great food.

Thanks,

Todd

New Yorkers don't really eat in NYC, just like Chinese people don't order chinese food...

Excellent Sushi at decent $$$, Corner of 78th street and 2nd Avenue.

Sushi Hana

Great Italian Place

Carmine's
2450 Broadway

If you are near Central Park West, you could check out Tavern on the green. Its a very nice restaurant and its near the Museum of Natural History which is also a great tourist destination spot. You could check out the museum and planetarium, then head over to Tavern on the Green, maybe take a carriage ride through central park afterwards.

The above is a link to my favorite rest. in Manhattan. It is 2 blocks from Madison Square Garden and right by Macy's and all the shops on 34th street. I have tried many different things and have LOVED everything! Enjoy your visit to NYC - home of the nicest people you'll ever meet!

As far as pizza is concerned you gotta go down to the "Pizza district" in the village. Two of my favorites and always listed on most top 10 pizza list is John's Pizza on 233 Bleecker Street and Famous Original Ray's Pizza on 736 7th Ave. Also, look up Lombardis pizza on 32 Spring St. is very good or so I've heard.

Don't forget if you want a real taste of NY, you have to get a dirty water dog, a kabob and a salty shopping cart pretzel. If you go into any pizza place, make sure they sell it by the slice, and we don't use any fork and knife here to eat it.

And if you want to avoid the tourist traps, stay away from all the themed restaurants in midtown.

Those themed restaurants are worst. You'll end up spending 20 bucks for a soggy hamburger, not including fries and a drink.

1. Go to Ellis Island. Very moving. Free or inexpensive. Great views of the harbor, Manhattan, and the Statue of Liberty.

2. The Circle Line boat trip around Manhattan is fun.

3. The ferry to Staten Island is free. Great view of the harbor. Cool breezes. Good view of the Statue of Liberty. But not as good as the boat to Ellis Island.

4. Look at the museums. Pick one or more. They're all good. The Metropolitan and the Museum of Natural History will knock your socks off.

5. Leave your car someplace. You can walk; take a cab; or, take the subway quick and cheap to most places.

6. Walk around Central Park, especially the area near the pond where they have the radio controlled boats.

7. Impossible to recommend a restaurant in New York. There's too many of them. Go explore.

Went to Carnagies deli and Famous Rays pizza. Both excellent. We are going to try Carmines tonight.

Any more recommendations?

Thanks,

Todd

I agree with Alex about John's. It's the place for pizza in the Village.

I also agree with billystro about Birichino's. I go there all the time for lunch.

Tir Na Nog is a great Irish place on 8th Avenue, between 33rd and 34th. Say "hi" to Tony at the door.

For lunch or dinner you gotta try Katz's deli 205 Houston st.Here's the site..http://www.katzdeli.com/presentation.html
A real good one for dinner would be Peter Lugar's Steak house In Brooklyn just out side the city. Just take a cab. Tell the driver
Peter lugar's on Broadway. You wont be sorry. voted best steak house in the country again this year!!!!!
