I broke down and went on a cross-country trip last week to get my windows tinted. Tom Frisbie of Fresbie Enterprises did it. Nice guy, very clean shop good work. But, warning . . .
Better to drop-off your car - do not wait around it takes 3 or more hours if the sun is not strong that day. Tom will not do you back hatch on newer vettes on a cloudy day. There is no airconditioning and no open windows in the waiting room. I did not see a TV either. There is nothing else around to kill time at. I took my laptop and asked Tom to drop me off downtown at a McDonalds for the afternoon - boring!
The rear hatch did come out perfect and no bubbles around the dots.
I have other cars to tint and asked Tom if he would be interested in coming to my house for a day of tinting with other people's cars and he said yes. I was thinking we could do a Saturday picnic at my house and have people come and hang-out while Tom and his tech tint our cars. He says he could do ten or so a day and would be willing to do it on a Friday and Saturday. Even if you're not getting tint anybody could come and hang for light fare and refreshments. I have parking for 100 or so cars at my house. At this point looking for feed-back.
I told you to pack a lunch He had a TV when I was there, I was watching the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. The day was so nice no AC was needed as well. But I was there for about 3 hours as well, he sent his helper out for some lunch.
But it was worth the trip not to have your rear hatch look like this:
All I can tell you is that with tax my '06 Z06 cost $265 (for side windows and rear). And I asked how much for my full size pick-up and Tom said $45 per door. He doesn't negotiate - guess he has plenty of work. I could have paid less from someone else, who knows - I wasn't getting any info on the local shops and when you ask some of these shop guys about their work the defences go up!
Thanks for posting the price, sounds kind of high!
I am going to check my local refered tinter, and see what he charges.
I know it is always better to pay more to get it right, but some good people tell me this local guy does outstanding work.
Otherwise, I would be interested in your idea of a "Tint-Fest".
...........Robert
PS: I have a 2003 Z06, wonder if it would be cheaper cause the rear window is straighter and smaller???

I absolutely agree with you it is on the high side (I heard of guys posting $150 but I have seen what you get for that price) - some people don't seem to a perfectionists and I have seen streaks, creases, scratches, cuts, bubbles and distortions and yet they don't notice (and I would be the bad guy to point it out!) For $250 + tax on a $75,000 car I want it perfect and when you see my car it looks like it. 35% looks tasteful, not like I from the hood.
Tom has a computerized cuter and his software shows the sizes. I remember he said it was a lot less for the previous generation Z's for tinting. He wouldn't give me a volume discount because he said "the back window is very hard to do for the time spent."
If the "Tint Day" is to occur everyone interested would have to make arrangements with Tom. I will not be involved in his business at all.

You usually get what you pay for
So are you going to set up a tint day or do we individually have to call Tom?

It seems logical to find out who wants to have tint done, the customer calls Frisbie for a price quote and if aceptable let me know - I can start a list going. Just about any Saturday is ok with me. If I know we have enough jobs to make it worth his while I will ask Tom if he can do a package deal (we can work the numbers out for everyone).
I know he takes all credit cards, checks and cash.
I am open to sugestions should anyone care to throw in an idea or two.
