Default NJ State inspection

Kind of new to Jersey, and have had my vette for about a month. Do I have to take my car to the state facility for an inspection or is there a shop that can do it?
I'm sure the state doesnt hire fully qualified ppl to do the job. I would like someone with a clue to do the work.

Am I being unreasonable?

I'm in Sewell/Turnersville.

Thanks

You can pay a private shop do it (around $75 I think) or go to the state facility for free.

I kinda think $75 is worth it for my piece of mind.

How about a good shop in the area?

Your car is a 2004? You should have no issues in regard to passing inspection. Save the money and go for the free inspection.

I'm not worried about it passing, I'm worried about the people that work there breaking something.

Should I be or, like I said previously, am I just being unreasonable?

They only get in your car for a short time. To check your breaks, headlamps and a few other things. I don't think you'll have a problem. I don't think its any more of a risk then a private garage checking it.

I go to a private shop, but I think my luck there may be running out. The owners are getting old, one died and the other isn't in teh best of health.

Anyway, I thought for 1996 and newer, they just plugged in to your ALDL and checked for codes and if none were present, you passed.

I haven't been to state inspection since about the late 80's.

Got a lot of no inspection sticker tickets, but at $20 a piece it was easier to just pay it. But now I hear the fine is much higher, thank God for the four year sticker on new cars and two on the older ones.

good thinking, when i had my first state inspection, the tech didnt know how to drive stick and revved the crap out of it just to move it up the test lane. theres a spot where he had to drive up on a small incline to test the suspension. took him 2 tries to get it up there.

all i could do is watch behind a glass box where you have to wait.
