We got a couple inches over here in Rochester which is 75 miles east of Buffalo. Vette is in the garage for the winter, I surrendered the plates on Wednesday, and already waiting for May

There is a bright spot for you Buffalonians though. Your team will be warm and cozy at Ford Field in Detroit. They will also experience the warm glow that is associated with kicking some NFL arze.
I will be at the game ONLY because I scored some free tickets. What an embarassment of a team we have.:o
FIRE MILLEN!

Have fun with the snow up there. I grew up in syracuse. Defintely glad I was not up there today.
That wasn't very nice EHS, why would I pay collision, and liability, for something I won't drive for six months? That's more money I can pour into the car during the winter. For God sakes, it was snowing here yesterday, and I saw SALT trucks out this morning
Ah, see, I made you feel bad EHS, you deleted the part about me not being able to afford the car, don't worry, I wasn't really mad anyway....

I had to drive out from Syracuse to Buffalo Thursday evening... Everything was fine until I reached Batavia (about 30 miles from Buffalo) when all of a sudden the roads were covered and the snow was falling so hard I could not see ANYTHING .
I put my Blazer in 4WD and tailed a semi for miles... at one point, a lunkhead in a minivan cut off the truck and he almost jack knifed (and I had to nail the binders to keep from tagging him). Next thing the minvan did a 360 and looped into the median. It was a horrible trip!
The hotel lost power at 10:30pm... backup power died at 2am... I finally fired up the Blazer and bailed out of town via back roads at 1 pm...
Unbelievable destruction from trees with leaves bogged down by super heavy, moisture laiden snow (great snowball fight snow).
Anyway, glad to be home and glad I didn't use my C5!!!

I believe the question is: Do you actually surrender the license plate and return it to your DMV?? And then my question would be, if you do that, how much does it cost to reactivate your plate come Spring, or do you get an all together different license plate??
Although my Corvette is insured through a Collectible Auto Policy and is covered year around on an annual policy, with my Insurance Company (Allstate) I may suspend coverage on a vehicle I am not driving. Instead, the vehicle is placed under a generic term like "Storge Protection" which is actually the comp coverage to protect it if the garage falls in or there is a fire. Really inexpensive, like $30 for the 6 month window. Obviously one must have other cars on the policy to have one not driven and covered. But this precludes the Insurance Company from having to report to the DMV that a policy has lapsed.
I would think you'd be much better off under those terms.

In New York State you CAN"T remove liability insurance unless you surrender the plates. It cost a $1.00 to turn them in, and they are destroyed, BUT, in the spring time I just show DMV my insurance card, along with the green card they supply when the plates are surrendered, and they issue new plates for free for the time remaining on the registration. The renewal period is every two years in NYS. If I sold the car, I could ask for a refund for the remainder of the time left on the registration. The green card from DMV is what is needed for the insurance company to remove the liability, and collision coverage, from my Auto Insurance Policy.
I was thinking about getting personal plates, those they will store for up to one year, AFTER the registration runs out, then they are destroyed. The fee is nominal for storage.
I obviously leave comprehensive on the car at all times, regardless, in case it was stolen, or caught fire.
