I got a 1989 6 speed.
In short I dumped like 2 grand into my car recently all new injectors, tuneup some burn off relay. I dont have the $$ to do any more. My service engine light is on, I pulled the codes myself 3 flashes pause 6 flashes i think its a egr code. I could give a rats *** about the code, if i unplug the battery wait 30 min plug it back in i can go like 50 miles before the light comes back on. My question is will I be able to pass inspection, will they beable to tell I reset the codes. I have a guy that will pass anything but i know w/ check engine lights he can't do it.
if the ck engine lite is on or off it should not matter because you car being a 89 has to run on the dino ,later cars as of 96 have obd11 which is a computer plug insp
JMHO, if you're sure the DTC is the EGR, the most common mechanical failure might be that the pintel is carboned up...after r&r'ing the EGR a little T/B spray on it usually clears the pintel and the valve functions normally and all ya need is to make a gasket to put it back on. However if the module for the EGR is N/G then it's parts time.

I should have thought of this sooner, you can use some SeaFoam and that may clear up any carbon in the EGR without doing any wrenching on it!

From what we do at my job the light has to be off and it doesn't get plugged in to the inspection machine. If it was my car I would disconnect the battery around the corner and then pull in.IMHO
