Tomorrow, we fly to D.C for 5 days. Besides the usual... Arlington National Cemetary, Smithsonian and the National Air and Space Museum, what is recommended? We've never been there before. Kevin
IF it's still possible, I used to live there, but been south for ten years now.....IF you can, to the Federal area at night, in the lights.. see WH, Capitol, SC, EOB, etc and all the huge monuments all lit up....take an entire night to do it.....much better as less crowds and the lighting shows stuff up you don't see in day....i'ts really impressive then....
serious....BUT, I dunno about the security these days....I"m sure you much more limited where you can walk to....
Don't know your interests, budget, but here are a few ideas:
Segway tour, cause walking all over town will make those dogs tired.
Stroll in Georgetown.
Dinner cruise, Spirit of Washington, Odyssey....
Bunch of monuments, memorials, and museums.
National Archive, Ford Theater, Holocaust Museum to mention a few.
Enjoy!
Just remember lots of places require tickets...some are free, but they
require you to stand in line(early) to get them. I know the Capitol and
the Washington Monument are like this and I've seen lines around the
block.
The good news is when you're in the WH, Capitol, Monument area, you
have a endless amount of options. I could spend days at the National
Museum of American History.
I'm performing an 1100 funeral today at Arlington, and I have Three tomorrow on Thursday. I Play sax in the Navy band here in Washington D.C. I'll probably drive my Z to Arlington so if you see a red Z06 wave and I'll try to stop and say hello!
Did a weekend tour with my son last year, Stayed block from Whitehouse. After 5, they roll the sidewalks up. Nothing is open, except expensive restruants. I rented a car, expensive overnight parking did the hop on hop off tour thing, at my convience. Traffic was not bad at night and weekends. Everybody leaves the city. Used to live in Falls Church in High School, couldn't hardly find anything, everything changed. I guess you can't go home again. Arlington Guards are impressive.
Just got back from 3 days at Times Square, had a blast! ask me about that.
Got in this afternoon and after getting lost on the subway, we found our way to Arlington National Cemetery. That was way watching the changing of the guards. Someone tried to cross the chain, and was promptly looking down the barrel of this guards rifle.
Only NE DC. Check out the Spy Museum. As stated above try to drive up to Baltimore and tour the Inner Harbor, National Aquarium and Science Center. Also, Old Town Alexandria is really neat. Night life is great and tour the Torpedo Factory (artists).
Get a tour of the Captiol Bldg.
Go for dinner in Georgetown -- really cool restaurants/bars.
If you're looking for a romantic dinner...try the restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Take a trip to the inner harbor in Baltimore.
We got to see lots of cool stuff yesterday... The Washington monument was out of tickets by 9:00 am but we went to the WW II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam wall, had lunch in the Smithsonian. $ 40.00 for three sandwiches , but we will go back there tomorrow to see the museum. We got a tour of the Capitol through Rep. Tom Feeney's office afterwards and that was Our last stop was the Supreme Court where I argued my case before it ( and lost). Here's a pic of me and the winning opposition.
Today we're going to the Pentagon and the national Archives. Kevin
There's a great little French restaurant in Alexandria (Old Town) that's much less expensive than the places in downtown DC. Called Le Refuge at 127 No. Washington St...703-548-4661. Only about 10 minutes south of National Airport.....& then Old Town is a really neat area for an after dinner stroll.
