Bla bla bla

I was just im'd this link and had to reply.

Sell the Z as you damn well know that your not going to drive the car that much because it's a "limited" car.

Mine is an 03 with only 15K on the clock and more money and mods than I care to think about. I'm not a waxer but I do have one on the payroll!

When it's raining or the roads are crappy out it sits in the garage just like yours will and I don't want to run up the clock on it.

Sell both if you want a Z and buy mine as I'm going to off mine and take Ed's advice and buy an S600 AMG!

For what it's worth....about an hour ago I just walked past a Ferrari dealer (cool race car on display, by the way) and right next door a Maybach/Mercedes dealer on Park Ave on the way home from work. A couple blocks away from that I passed an old lady sleeping on the sidewalk with a little suitcase containing her worldly possessions. Moral of the story: it's just a car. There's more important things in life than agonzing about sales taxes and having two Corvettes. Keep your current awesome Vette for years to come, enjoy the heck out of it, sell the Ron Whatever Z, save the money & make your wife happy with a nice new kitchen or a nice weeked getaway.

Anyway, that's my $.02....

I vote Ron Fellows because it is the only thing you can make money on. Take the money pay off your car and have a few extra $$$ to do something with.

If you were a collector then I would say keep the Ron Fellows car, but the second you put miles to it you are screwed.

In the end you will have a vette so take your time and think about it.

Call Craig Jackson and tell him you want to bring the car to Scottsdale to be put up on the block and have a collector give you $150K for it.

Very good point of view.

Say, with a bit of the money from selling the RFZ (If JerseyJay's estimate is right, you'd have quite a bit...) you can make your wife happy by getting the kitchen done, and then pay Ron to come out and sign one of the cabinet doors for you!
(and still buy a bitchin' 08Z next spring)

And if you pay the guy in Canadian dollars, you'll save even more money, eh!

I'd sell the blue car and drive the wheels off the RFZ06. That's what it's for, who cares what others think.

Tuff choice, but I think I would sell the RFZ, as much as I love it, i enjoy driving too much, and then I would buy a year old c6z06, and keep the change.

sell the automatic thats missing a liter, 100 horsepower, and is normal run of the mill production without a cool story behind it.

sure its a lil bit of a pay to play deal to keep the Z but having driven both I think the decision should be easy.

Sell the collector car. Every mile you put on it will depreciate it's value.
Get your wife the kitchen......she will love you "Big Time" for that decision, and you should still have enough money left for a little vacation.
Drive your car for the next couple of years without worry. Then buy the new and improved Z06 you always wanted.

Rob,

No matter how you slice it you have the opportunity to own a limited production car for a little less then 50% of the cars overall value. I would make that trade everyday. Your issue is that you bot your 1st vette with everything you wanted and now have to sell it for a less then you paid. Thats an emotional game . Ask your self if you went into a dealership to do this identical trade would you do it??? I bet you would ...Sell the Lemans blue( buy the way the ain't making that color no more) and own the RFZ and drive it like you want.

I still say, you should sell the Lemans blue vette, keep the RFZ and forget about the resale value of it, just enjoy it. For it to be worth something in 20-30 years, you'd have to have like 1,500 miles on it and that's just unrealistic. Forget about the mileage, just enjoy life. You won this amazing prize, enjoy every minute of it. Just remember, cars are never a financial investment, they are an investment in your own happiness.

Good morning All!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to voice your opinions and help me to sort out what should be done here. I wish it was totally one sided one way or another but, we're at a dead heat 16/16 . I have a feeling that once I actually have it in my driveway, I'll end up keeping it and driving it. Because, as we ALL know, it's impossible to have a Vette and not drive the snot out of it.

I think I'm going to have to cut my losses on the LMB Z51 and go with the RFZ I won. At least that is my feeling right now 9:23am July 10...

Thanks again everyone!

Keep the RFZ and drive the pi$$ out of it - you'll be glad you did. Hey, you won the raffle - it was meant to be for you to own and enjoy, not sell. Don't worry about the appreciation / depreciation - even if it simply holds its value you're ahead of the game. And you'll have an extra 18K do play around with to boot.

One suggestion depending on how you're going to use it - you can get collector car insurance on the RFZ through American Hobbyist with unlimited mileage for a lot cheaper than regular insurance. Only restrictions are that you have to keep it garaged and can't use it for errands or work. I do this for my Z06 since the restrictions don't change the way I'd use it anyway and I can still drive the snot out of it as much as I want as far as I want.

Let me chime in.
If it were me (and damn I wish I had your problem!!!), I'd ask myself what I'm going to do with the RFZ. Am I going to show it, garage queen, collectable, or drive it. I have no need for a car that doesn't get driven, however, I do like the new Z06's, and lets face it, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

So if it were me, I'd not register the RFZ, sell it as new, and take the money and buy a run of the mill new Z06. So now I'd have the performance weekender car, the daily driver (LMB Z51), and some money left over for the household. The limited edition stuff doesn't do much for me because I want to drive the car. And when you drive a car, its going to get dirty/chips/damaged etc. And since I don't have an isolated locked garage, my wife/2yo rubbing past the car would eventually scratch it somehow.

Selling the LMB, unfortuanately, your going to take a loss. Never buy a car for an investment. My friend just bought a White 07 vert from Kerbeck used with under 1.5K and got 15K off the sticker! As soon as you drive it off the lot, you've lost 5K, only way to recoupe is to keep it for more than 4-5years. The other problem is most private sales are hard to come by where someone wants to drop 40K+. With that kind of money, people usually want the comfort a dealer provides them.

You have the other option of taking GeorgeZ up on his trade offer for the 1-of-a-kind GeorgeZ Z06. I'm sure he'd throw in some electrical work for free too.

Let's face it, you've got a hard choice to make, but one that's great to have. Good luck in your decision.

Oh boy Rob this is a tough decision. Hummmmm. Ok this is what I would do in your situation. Putting a new kitchen in your house would bring up the value of your house plus your wife would be very happy. The RFZ will depreciate as soon as you start driving it. As you said you buy a Vette to drive it not to look at it. If you wanted to just look at a car go to the dealer every day. I personally would sell the RFZ and keep the blue Vette. Make money off the prize. As Jay said get the RF on the auction block and get big bucks for it.

If you could manage to keep both and redo the kitchen go for it!!!! Good luck babe!!
