NJ Lawmaker: Front licence plates=useless
I wish I knew how to post the online article I just found when Googling "front and rear license plate states" but I couldn't copy it to paste into here. But here is the gist of it. NEW JERSEY owners read this!
Middlesex assemblyman aims to reduce state costs, plans legislation this fall. From Daily Record serving Morris County. Tuesday July 24th 2007.
Assemblyman John Wisniewski, D-Parlin, said Monday he would introduce legislation in the fall that would require only a rear license plate.
"My words" This wonderful example of a reasonable and smart state official sees that the front tag is just an unnecessary expense to the state and has no real purpose. It would seem this might be a precursor to the state sub contracting out the manufacture of our tags. IE; it could be done at half the expense. I would ask the New Jersey members in Morris and Middlesex counties to contact this Assemblyman with support and possibly post in here contact info that we could all use to strengthen his proposal as if this goes through (it's being argued by the Police, naturally) WE WON'T HAVE TO MOUNT A FRONT LICENSE PLATE here in NJ in the near future!
Are you folks as excited about this as much as I am? I would think you would be. I'll be following this legislation and hope that you folks will too.
I saw the article in the paper. It would be great for Corvette owners if they did away with it, but as a life long New Jersey resident, I think we'll all die of old age before they change the front plate law.
Who knows? They did change to blue plates in the late '70's or early '80's.
Wait that was when the drinking age was 18. On second thought, no chance. Of course many of us wounldn't remember anyway.

You pay for your plates anyway so I dont see how it would save the state anything? but it would be cool to finally be legal, now about that pesky inspection thing....
Yeah, saw that article as well. Hopefully they change it. question:
How many of you guys out there have actually been harassed for no front plate? I always get a little nervous when passing jonnylaw but half the time they don't even look at you. I am actually more concerned about getting an exhaust ticket than a front plate.

Actually I think LEO has beed pretty cool about this. They look but don't seem to bother. Guess much bigger fish to fry. Our cars do look nerdy with the plate on, maybe because of the NJ color.

Reduction in plate production by 50% = $$$ savings. I think it was Ohio that investigated going to just a rear tag and their officials estimated it would save the state about $3M per year!!!!
We try to get a bill passed every year here in MD for one tag and the State Police always, without fail, get it killed. "They" claim a front tag enables them to identify stolen cars more easily if the front of the cars are facing the road. Yeah, right. We all know it's because their radar becomes less effective with no vertical metal plate on the front of the vehicle to deflect the beam, which translates to fewer tickets, which translates to less revenue for the state.

So the price for the suggested one plate would be the same as it is today for the pair, but the cost to make one plate is less so there would be more money to line the respective deep pockets.
The bottom line, we only have one plate on our cars. I like it!

Yeah, I keep a "spare" plate in the garage at all times!
I thought there were 38 states that require a front plate, here it says 30. I would not care about the front plate, but I have a C6 and the front plate looks stupid.
There will be a tug-o-war with this bill. I think the Police will win this one, with their 'safety' concerns;..."the front plate enhances public safety at traffic stops and vehicle checks."

Besides, what would the inmates do with 50% of the "free" time?
That's the point. Bayside (Prison) won't be making the plates in the near future. The state is subbing them out to private enterprise. THIS is one of the positive reason for the 50% reduction in cost to the state for manufacturing them, rather than paying the contractor to make two plates per vehicle = half the cost to the state. This could be the issue we need to get this passed.
It will (think positive) be nice to not have a reason for getting pulled over. I haven't run a front plate for years, but now I won't have to worry when seeing local leo's. Troopers are never a problem.
