Just realized that I am due this month and had a quick question:
My emergency brake works as far as locking up the brakes, but it does not lock into place. In other words, you let it go and it releases - doesn't ratchet into place. Is this going to fail me?

Thanks....
Unless you have an inattentive inspector, yes it will. There is a step in the inspection process where the computer display for the suspension test tells the tech to pull for ward on the decline ramps and set the parking brake.
Be 100% correct before you bring the car to inspection, its too much of a hassle otherwise, plus you get that big red "FAILED" sticker on your car.
charlie, you may be able to fix that real quick.....
if you spray the ratcheting mechinism with WD40 it will probably start working again.
you can get to it easily by removing the console...

I'll try but I think a spring popped out a while back while shooting the quarter at Atco.

Damn, I may pass on the inspection then as I don't want to drive up to Carlisle on Saturday with a big "Failed" sticker.
Hate to say it Charlie,
But you'll fail if it doesn't lock in place.
Ahhh, Atco. Where you can drink like mad, barely walk and still drive down the track.....just don't do it with your helmet off.
I love that place. We'll have to hook up one time and go.
Sounds like the same dump it has always been. Last time I was there, which was maybe 1992, a bunch of peoples stuff was stolen. several people had to drive home on slicks because their street rims/tires, tools, jacks, and associated belongings were stolen. The volume of stuff taken was so large it had to be and inside job with lookouts and all. Everyone thought it was track personnel but nothing ever came of it.

It may be a dump, but its a close dump ripe for a quick fix.
If you have the original new car sticker, keep it. If you get nabbed just pay the stupid fine. An expired new car sticker does not attract as much attention as an expired NJDMV sticker. Crap shoot go with the odds and keep it under sub-light speed. hehe
You have all of next week to go. Mine expires at the end of the month too. If you fail next week you get time to fix whatever you failed for. I think it's like 15 to 30 days. At least if you have the documentation and you get pulled over in September you will be legal.

Trying to get e-brake finished tomorrow, but if not the inspection sticker is goof thru August so I am in the clear until next week.
The better part of the drive is in PA, not NJ. So I thought he was concerned about the PA cops.
I'm good until the end of August so I am fine for the trip to Carlisle, but need to get the e-brake fixed this week.
The shop down here told me the spring popped and that they would need to order a whole new assembly for around $300. Problem is that it'd take 2 or 3 days to get it in so I am going to have to get in done closer to home.
