I think I might need an engine, who knows of good engine installers? I am in Quincy, MA. I'll travel 25 miles. I'll also need to decide on an engine. It's a '74 with matching #'s, base 350, auto...

Might be time to go for the ZZ4 crate motor from GM. It's a real nice motor and it comes with a warranty from GM.
I've been trying to buy a 75 from a local guy for quite a while now. The car has been sitting for several years and is crying for a new lease on life. It's a base no frills coupe with the L48 motor and a 4 speed. Probably one of the least desirable Corvettes ever to most people, but I love the body style and it is the right color blue (same as yours) with silver interior. If I'm lucky enough to get my hands on it one day it is going to be treated to a ZZ4 crate motor and a 5 speed along with some suspension and brake upgrades.
I'm usually an advocate for keeping matching number cars intact, but I don't think it will affect the value on a mid seventies C3 as much as it would on earlier cars chrome bumper cars. If you're really concerned, you could always store the original drivetrain.
I'm not from your neck of the woods, but a motor swap in an early
C3 is not a difficult job, most any reputable shop should be able to handle it for you.

You could have Jasper rebuild your original engine. They will come pick it up and rebuild it, and give you a warranty with the work they do.

I just had them rebuild a engine for me. It took a few weeks but I got the original engine back in better than new condition. But they did paint it a crappy grey color.

Few weeks is fine, it's winter here in Boston...how much did it cost you? Did they do it to stock or more HP?

I'll have a shop remove and install it, they said about $600 for that part of the labor...
