Well John, you also got to remember all the other changes you made.
17" 275 drag radials to 15" rims and 325's. Different shocks, then you went to the ET streets, the gear change, Aren't the ET streets a smaller diameter than the last set of drag radials?
Also didn't you ask for a looser converter? Would that make that much of a difference?
Perhaps you didn't pick up much power in the low end....or maybe even lost a tiny bit at the absolute lowest "operating" R's in 1st gear? You did pick up a whole bunch mid & top end. That "package" is a winner in my book & may find it's way into one of my cars soon :)
1.60 ain't exactly BAD fella........but being a 1.6"0" I know you must want to see 1.5's as bad as I wanted to see 1.7's after my string of 1.80's
I would also bet if you had your Drag Radials on (instead of the E.T. Streets)the day you ran your .58 it would have been low 50's or high 40's. The air was really really good that day & you only picked up .04 from your previous best.
Maybe when the trans is out you can get the converter redone? maybe around 3500 & see what happens to your 60' times. Whats the S.T.R. in that converter you have?
:D Or is this just a post to "get" JP since he can't go 1.60??? :D

Joe (aka "Mr. Runner-Up")
Joe I'm want to go to a 4400 convertor with a lock up switch, and I'm looking at a REAL rear gear (Hows 4.88 sound) and then using a 30" tire.
I know I've got enough power to 60' low 1.4. Now I've just got to get it out of the car. Hows 4.88 sound.

Now youre talkin' !!! :D :D I didn't think you wanted to get quite that radical with the big baloon's but I like it !!! That will raise your "overall" ratio about +.35 numerically & give a heck of a kick in the pants no doubt
John, i have the same problem...only worse. You are short timing about .05-.07 quicker than me. My converter is a tight 2800 and i was going to have it loosened about 300 rpms, BUT....i aslo currently have a traction problem, so that would only make things worse for me. On a Sunday (or any other track) i can hook consistently, but duiring the etown street tire fests, i think you could slip and fall on your butt at the starting line...LOL!!! My plan is to do some chassis tuning first, then maybe loosen the converter. Been doing some reading on chassis set up and developing a plan of action.
I'm with you though, i think we should be short'n high 1.5s to low 1.6s (in heat). Friggn JP is shorting almost the same as me....and he's still using the original oil for christ sake!!!
If you go to a 4000+ stall & more gear, you should easily see low 1.5s even high 1.4s IF (big IF) you can hook up. i guess you are willing to give up a lot of streetability...i'm not there yet.
Good luck...we should compare notes at some point.
