Selective enforcement has a purpose, but dissolution of a right to assemble is not one of them.
I don't know what went on at Captree, but I agree with what you said. Communist countries and countries that hate the western world have a few things in common. They don't have nice cars; don't have colorful clothes, no exciting music or any other forms of entertainment, and they have no freedom of choice.

If the objective of the police was to discourage car enthusiasts from gathering and showing off their nice cars, then they are wrong. On the other hand, if it was just a "fundraising event", then if you're in violation, just pay the fine. It goes with the territory.

I enter the wantagh pky @ the ss there where 3 troops on the side of the road talking we past by them with 4 cars in the center lane doing 55 mph all of a sudden one troop in his new magum blows pass us in the left lane with no lights on at well over 100 mph. [REAL SAFE FOR THE PUBLIC] than his buddy does the same at the same rate of speed.
He pulled over a hide to see if we where speeding!!!! We passed him doing 54 mph he was so pissed after we passed he jumps in the left lane and pulls the same **** again[blows by us @ over a 100 mph to go meet his buddy in the magum] I wish i had a video camera so i could catch both of them on tape being *** holes and endangering everybody on that roadway at that time for a speeding ticket.
This happend in nassau county. And just as a side note one of my friends is a trooper.
Mitch

I am sure that there are those who have never, ever exceed the speed limits nor have they ever committed any type of traffic infraction. We poor souls that want to drive with our wives to meet a few other old friends should be held to the highest standards imposed on all the driving public. I am sure this same type of enforcement is done at church meetings, PTA functions and the like. I go over the bridge at the same speed that I came to Captree...50mph. We all have a right to enjoy the benefits of Captree without having to be singled out just because we enjoy our hobby. Are you suggesting that we limit our size and ask permission to use a public parking lot? I have never suggested the police, not cops, are jealous. I recognize they are following orders. This is beyond the realm of the police officer and points to our voice being heard polictically.
I choose not to be intimidated to stay home as is being suggested. Our basic freedoms to enjoy the waterfront I guess must be denied to all because of the recklessness of a few. My usual jaunt is to go see the deer on Fire Island, then swing back to Captree to enjoy my friends. I guess that is unlawful, or now subject to the highest scrutiny.
When a person gives up freedom a piece at a time, utimately they loose it all...Read the posting carefully, those that violate should be summoned. yes, even those horrible plate violators...The goal is to remove this gathering from the area...I guess there are some that choose to surrender their rigths and freedoms without hesitation.

how about follow the law and put on a front plate and drive the speed limit??

the cops are always the bad guys.....

This is why I lock the LEO threads, and then I get all the whining that we (Mods) are censoring everyones freedom of speech....no we are doing our job as Mods....kind of like the cops doing their job enforcing the law....
