well guys, this mornin i started strippin the 69. No sanding, no stripper, jus one razor blade.. only took 1 hour to hit one door down to bare glass.. not bad time wise.. if I keep at it i should have my car ready to paint in about a week
Curious? Why scraping with a razor blade? Does this keep the panel flat and not damage the glass as sanding would? Will you be using filler before painting? Keep us posted as the job progresses.
Scorp, i mig welded 18 blades together so i could do one massive swipe down the entire car. :smash:
I work in a body shop and I've done this sort of thing before. Only kind of paint you can do this on and get away with is laquer. And with the car only having one coat of laquer on the car (and not 15 other colors hiding) it is easy. No goudging of the glass at all, as long as you have the blade angled right. I did put a couple scrapes in it (trying to start on a bad spot), but nothing that some good ol spot puddy cant fix.. Tomorrow i hope to get the 1/4 panel and decklid stripped, and then i have till January 2nd to get the car ready for paint.. :jester
Sounds Good Corey! You have guts! I dont think I could go at my car like that with a blade. When I do it I'm going to go the Chemical route. Good Luck and keep workin!
i thought about the chemical route but its too messy and it smells aweful. Once i get the paint off, I'll block sand the lacquer primer and go over it with a urethane primer. wetsand the hell out of it and hope for the best..
