We had to amened our route to stay off of Skyline Drive. We cannot conform to the new park guidelines for a permit. I've posted a copy of the note we received from the park service on page one of this thread, in my original post.
SVCC and I are officially asking all cruise participants to stay out of Shenandoah National Park. We do not want to be subjected to fines and/or court appearances because they think we are violating their guidelines.
OK - update on the route. I know this a last minute change but we've been essentially forced to change our route by new park permit guidelines. The park will only allow us to permit 100 cars, so that leaves about 50 of you out... They also wanted to limit how many of us could enter the park in a specific time-frame. I'll post the note we got from SNP at the end of this so you can see for yourself what they want to do. Anyway, after deciding to get the permit, we've changed our minds and will set a route around the park. Please - if you must enter the park on the day of the cruise, please do so in small groups and do it after the cruise is over. If the park service thinks that you are entering the park as a part of our cruise, SVCC and myself will be subjected to fines. So, we are going to follow a similar route to the one we did in the spring and then end up at a nice place for lunch. We're taking the group pic before we leave the car lot so we don't have to worry about that after we depart.
Sorry for the confusion regarding entering the park. I guess we're going to have to break down and rename the cruise from "Skyline Drive" to something else. Here is a copy of the note we got from SNP:
I would think since they are monitoring this thread you posting this should insulate you and SVCC from any legal action from SNP.
Since SNP monitors this forum it would be nice if they would post a reason as to why this event creates a hardship for them, it would be nice to know!
It's ashame they are missing out on a significant revenue day.
Maybe it's time to change the venue all together, just a suggestion.
