Default Action Park

If any of you guys remember it, and/or have been there... post over in the off-topic section in the Action Park thread... there's a few links there with funny info and stories.

Though it still exists today, under a different name, and supposedly much safer, I'd love to be part of an "Old Action Park Run" set up by anyone other than me, of course.

Wow! Talk about a Deja Vu! In the mid '80s (once upon a time) a handful of us Post Office folks (from the local fav PO watering hole) got together one weekend and made the trek up to Vernon,NJ (read "the top of the world!") and did just about every slide, water ride, cliff dive, etc they had to offer, all the time guzzling large quanities of their beer during the "Octoberfest" festivities going on at that time. It's quite a ride to get there (and then again to get back home), but it was more fun than I've had in awhile, but then again I was about 30 years younger then . I think it's called www.mountaincreekwaterpark.com now.

WTH........... I'd go.

I posted this shortly after the OT post, so it wasn't for the lack of hits. It's moreso due to your admission, the night of the cheesesteak run, that you're basically scared to venture into the OT threads.

Yes, one side was the waterpark.. and the other was go-karting, though I've never used them. From the article I linked to in the other thread, seems they were powerful, moreso when people overrode the governors, and the beer stands didn't help, either.

Unfortunately, the Alpine Slide is long gone, but they've now got some great mountain bike courses, both cross country & downhill. Plus you can ride the Gondola with your bike to get to the top of the mountain at Vernon & ride over to the Great Gorge side. Now....who remembers THE PLAYBOY CLUB!

Playboy Club
Almost got asked to leave. The bar tender told us he was ordered to "slow us down" by his boss. My friend was in the Army band and a friend of his was playing at the club. We went there to watch him play. He asked us to behave because he had a chance to play at other locations if they liked his band. We had a great time, but I don't think my friend ever heard from him again.
oh well...

It was great for the couple of years it lasted. Playboy built the club in Vernon on spec that NJ would allow gambling statewide. When the nod went to A/C, that was the end. Went by there last winter when we were up skiing & it looks like a ghost town.....

All I have to say about the Alpine slide is "OUCH, my skin is F%$ burning. Couple bald spots on my legs. Loved that place. Would rather go there as a kid then 6 Flags Great Aventure anytime.
