took the '04 and my wife for a little ride to Atlantic City, to scope out the hotels, for accommodations next April for Strictly Corvette show. We wanted someplace close so we could walk back and forth to the convention center. The ideal place is the convention center Sheraton, but that would be at least $200 a night, way more then I'm willing to pay to be in a car show. I would not walk to the hotels on the boardwalk after dark; that place is a real ghetto. If the casinos weren't there, I think the city would have just closed up and become a ghost town. I can't believe how crappy that city is and I guess I won't be going to the show next year. We walked the boardwalk and there is nothing there anymore. I loved that place growing up and the last time I went in the early 70's, the Steele Pier was still there; what a neat place that was.Oh well, nothing stays the same! Just wanted to vent

You could travel down the walk which is always jam packed with people and stay at the trump plaza or one of the nearby hotels on pacific. Everywhere is well lit and the ACPD is everywhere. Prices for the casino rooms are very low so you shouldnt have a problem.
The caesars boardwalk mall is great and is a great addition to the boardwalk. There re also other great attractions on the 4.5 miles of the AC boardwalk so anyone who says the place has gone to the dogs hasnt been, didnt research or doesnt know what they are talking about.
With all of this said hope you make it to the show next year and if you need help with a hotel let me know

Sadly, things didn't go quite as planned after they built the casinos, but they are trying. All cities have issues & there are some pretty seedy parts of AC.
We have a condo a few miles from AC but rarely go there simply because there isn't much in AC that interests us in except for meeting friends for dinner. We have walked the boardwalk at night so Bill could take pictures and felt perfectly safe. But then again, we live in NYC so what do I know about "safe"?
Hey Doug hows Baltimore at night??? To be fair the boardwalk is not what it used to be no doubt. It hasent been a family town for years. If you stay near the walk your fine, plenty of police around..You could stay off shore for less but would have to shuttle ove to the center............. Also nearbys Ocean Citys boardwalk still has that family style feel to it,with rides and the like..............And your right about the steel pier, that place was so much fun,I saw so many groups there. From the Temtations,to the Dave clark 5...Great place.Just dont have that kind of entertaiment around anywhere anymore.....................

I payed $100 a nite last year and I won't pay anymore then that for a car show and I know the casino rooms aren't that cheap. I would love to stay in that Sheraton next to the convention center but they wanted $179 plus all the taxes, and they don't accept any discounts like AAA or AARP on Fri and Sat. nites, so I guess I stay home. I went specifically to AC just to check out the neighborhood and the closest hotels and I didn't like what I saw in the daylight.

I'm sure Baltimore is much worse then AC and that's why I don't go near downtown area. I don't even like going to the inner harbor and parking in those garages, or walking the streets even daytime. The circus was my favorite pier thing to do. It was so cool sitting in the bleachers overtop the ocean and watching the diving horse and the clowns falling of the pier into the dark ocean, very eerie out there at night, but fun.

I have no problem at all walking around PARTS of Baltimore at night. But, like AC & NYC, Balitmore or any other city have their good parts and bad parts and you need to be aware of your surroundings and know where to go & where not to go.

Why not just make a day trip out of it? Or, there are hotels/motels where we are in EHT, in fact they just opened a Marriott on the corner of our road. Do the show in the day, stay over night and head back the next morning. ..... just a thought.

I f you cant find any rooms for under $179.00 at any casino you cant be looking in the right place. Try this as this is where I go when I want to stay in the city for the night... http://www.atlanticcity.com/
Also, You cant limit yourself to the area around the convention center, The walk or anything else in that area. There is lots to see in AC and me, living in the area my whole life know this to be true. You just have to know where things are and where to go.
Out of town people flock to the boardwalk and casinos as thats all they know but there is lots more to see in our neck of the woods than those things. To tell you the truth, if you live close to AC you never go to the Casinos unless your friends drag you there against your will.
Next time your in the area give me a shout and I will take you to some of the sights where you wont need kevlar and pepper spray.

I have to agree with you. I went down for that show with a buddy and once we were done we decided to head to the board walk to grab something to eat. Another $20 or so to park the car and once up there it was awful and thats being kind. Yes it is very sad the state of that town. I love the idea of the show but for all the money we put out just for a day it wasn't that great of an afternoon. If there was some place closer to Phila it may bring in more people because being at AC didn't mean much at all because there's just not that much to do there.

The main reason I'm looking for a place to stay for two nites, is because we won't have an extra car to drive back and forth between the convention center and the hotel. We stayed with another couple last year, about 4 miles outside, but my buddys wife also brought her car. Once the corvette is parked inside, I don't want to bring it out every night to get back to the hotel. I can't talk the wife into driving her car down by herself, even though she would be following me. I'll check out that site you gave me, thanks.

Look at it this way, your not paying for just a room, your paying for serious convenience and the safety for not having to walk through the ghetto at night. Sounds worth it to me...

John's right. While much of the boardwalk has become casino row, there are still plenty of finds. And I've never felt unsafe walking around there.
And I love Baltimore's Inner Harbor. We go there every year. One of our best times was walking back drunk from the Powerplant clubs and the skies opened up on us. We were drenched. Found a little hole-in-the-wall pool hall and played soaking wet for hours.
Point is, the time is what you make it.
Worst case is I'm sure some other forum members would be happy enough to give you a ride.

Hey Doug!!! I went to AC a couple years ago and was very disappointed just like you. I don't think I would go for a show and stay overnight. It just didn't give enough enjoyment for the money you must spend. Good Luck though. Hope to see you soon
People wont spend $179 a night for nice hotel room but will a couple a hundred dollars a year in misc car parts.
I parked at Ceasar's Palace and walked to the Convention Center.....its very safe, no worries what so ever. My wife goes to the outlet malls right there by her self and has never had a problem.

Yea, I would rather spend the money on car stuff; We only need a clean room to sleep a little and take a shower. Maybe your wife can take my wife shopping with her

Too bad there aren't many "good parts" left in Baltimore anymore as much as locals try to deny it. Even the tourist trap Inner Harbor is non-exempt from crime. There's been teenage gang fights and beatdowns at the Harbor recently...mid-day in broad daylight. Shootings and the sound of gun fire are pretty common. Teen violence is out of control. Homicides are on a pace to set a record. Not pretty. Most Marylanders will agree with Doug on this.
