NJ inspection
Dave
good luck.

I also never saw them "look" for cats. Car is so low, that it's virtually impossible for them to do so. However, they did drive my car over a ram, that lifted the front off the ground. That's when I thought they were going to check. Nope, just grabbed each front wheel and pulled to make sure steering was tight. (I have no idea how they know how to position the car over the hydrolic ram, it was a single large rectangular piston that extended from the ground. Looked like it raised the car from the front cradle, or worse, oil pan
)From my impression of watching them, it appears that inspecton is strictly a safety test, they don't care about anything else. As long as the car's computer says it's running fine (no CEL), than no bother with emmissions.
With that said, I don't have HIDs and have cats (highflow cats on AR headers), so who knows. True test will be when I bring the cammed TA to inspection next year. Most of the sensors show a status of incomplete, and I wonder if they fail you for having too many.
Has anyone ever seen the typical state inspection employee? I've even gone through inspection with expired insurance and registration and they've passed me.

I said, "It's a 73". They said no CATS"!
I said, "But it's a 73". They said "Oh".
So much for the State Inspection Stations. They should go.
Locate Collector Car Status.
If you can live with 3,000 miles per year, you have the answer.
If you are more than 3,000 miles per year; Then you have the answer for 2 years only,at least until QQ plates.

Marty
Yeah, that's not going to work... I actually tried that many years ago with my old Camaro... "roll the windows up" was the very first thing they said to me.
Not sure if you were sarcastic or serious, but figured I'd chime in.
Good luck.

That doesn't work, believe it or not they are a tad bit smarter then that.

Plus your children's children will love you for it
