Hi,

It looks like my C6 needs a new harmonic balancer / crank pulley (unless someone can help me do this!). Im in South Jersey near Swedesboro.

I know theres County and Contes and Fran's place. I would trust all of them to do the work well. Its just that I am trying to save some ca$h while making sure that the job is done properly.

qualified mechanics that do high quality work don't come "cheap" anywhere.
Honestly, if you found a shop that was significantly less than everywhere else wouldn't you start questioning WHY they were so much less expensive.
Generally speaking you get what you pay for - if you pay cheap mechanic rates than most likely you are going to get cheap work.

I'd choose a shop based on quality mechanics and a good reputation and good references with the price secondary. I'm not saying don't be concerned about price because that's not smart either but I wouldn't trust my car with someone based solely on price.

BTW, new balancer and pulley?? is this under warranty? if it's a warranty job I'd go to a dealer rather than pay an outside shop a lot of money.

There has been a C6 TSB published for the crank pulley bolt coming loose & causing damage to the crank pulley & balancer. Before you reach for your wallet, do a "Search" for "crank pulley bolt" & then speak with the Service manager at your favorite dealer. May very well be covered under Waranty.

You get what you pay for, Naeem. We would rather be a little more expensive than have to apologize for a lack of quality. If you want work done at rock bottom pricing you have the wrong vehical and too high of expectations. Don't point the finger at us for your inability to find a shop that will do outstanding work for next to nothing. Do you work for free? I wasnt going to say anything but this is the third time you've taken a stab at our shop on this forum after we've done everything we could for you.

Please let me know if you need anything via PM or a phone call.

IMHO, you can't compare a speciality shop to most dealerships on price. If you trust the above mentioned shops, who all do great work, then you pay the piper. They work on vettes all the time, a dealership may only see one a month for any real "repair". Just my $.02.

Hi Jim, Ive got nothing negative to say about you guys, as a matter of fact I really like your shop or I wouldnt have had my first C5's ignition/starter/steering column locking thingy worked on back in 2005. It was a $500 job and I was happy with the work...When the rear started to leak, guess where the car was towed...bingo! That 04 I just sold, the one with 12k miles on it. Guess where I brought that. Right again!

I mentioned the names of 3 places and said that they all do good work but I am trying to save where I can. Not sure where I was offensive.

There were other negative comments that I made about you guys? Can you tell me what it is that I said. Im thinking it must have been a misunderstanding especially since I keep coming back to your place. Please feel free to call me as well. I would hate for some misunderstanding to get in the way of what I thought was a good relationship. But since youre here, how much would you guys charge to do the work!? Thanks!

But regarding this post, fellow members made some good points and gave me something to think about. "You get what you pay for" and "if something is significantly cheaper than everyone else is charging, then be careful". Both good points.

The way things are, of-course I am looking to save where I can. Am I willing to sacrifice quality for cost, nope, but a savings is always nice.

Where are you located? What year is your car? You might get the item covered at a GM dealer. PM me your info, it might be worth a shot.

I wanted to thank everyone for the suggestions and leads. Rick (ragtopws6) really came through unbelievably, just wish I was closer to him. If the car was closer to my home, I would have taken it to Fran at RPM. Since it was in Central Jersey, I ended up taking it to Chris at ECS.

Everyone was reasonably priced and very helpful.

Cant wait to get it back
