Good post Charlie! I'm proud of the alliance that the Corvette Community, among other worthwhile groups have with the Marine Corp in their endeavor to bring Christmas gifts to deserving children each year.

I watched a news story today where the CEO of Toys For Tots was interviewed. He's a retired Marine General and the story highlighted the dedication of the employees. It was also the "last call" for donations during this Christmas season.

Great post Chaz
Not only does it warm the heart but at least for me.. takes a little bite of reality out of my butt.. and makes me remember, in a good way, how blessed I am to have the "material" possessions that I do, the great friends, family and relatively good health when some of these kids dont have any of that.
I was in the USMCR in RI from 1967-1973. I remember at that time that we accepted just about anything. We spent many weekends just taking old bikes apart and using the parts to make decent bikes for the kids. Going through all the toys and picking out the good and decent ones for the kids. We also used to deliver the toys to families that applied for them. I went to some pretty depressing places, but I always remember the smiles on the kids faces. That made it all worthwhile. Over the last 40 yrs or so I have made it a point to always donate a couple of toys. Since I joined my corvette club ( Corvette Club of RI )
I have organized ( as the resident Marine) a collection from members for Toy's for Tots. This year I received about 60 toys to donate. I always get choked up about this. Even though I was only a reservist I am so damn proud to be called a Marine.
this was the 2nd year that i was invited to pick up santa for the local toys for tots program and it was a great outpouring of support from the marines and the local car people ,it is one of the great things that a person can do for unfortunate family;s, it is one of the only charitys where the kids benefit 100percent, i am truely looking foward to it again next year, happy holidays to my extended corvette family, artie
charity. I donated many items over the last two years to the veterans organzation (toys, furniture, household items, wheelchairs, etc.). They are happy to make use of these items. We should all be sensitive and grateful for the sacrifices they make. Every time I see a military person I thank them and we provide our services free to those serving.
