Default Any help in MD/VA?

Hey guys. After taking my whole intake apart today, and still having the same random surging and constant bucking below 1500rpm, I'm getting the feeling that maybe I need to have my car checked out by someone who knows something...I'm used to VTEC 4bangers, so the LS1 knowledge just isn't there. I've heard something about logging...Maybe that's what needs to be done to possibly figure out the problem?

P.S. Today, for chits and giggles, I removed the whole intake, including the TB and MAF. I cleaned them both. The TB has oil behind the butterfly. Neither of those things helped my surging issue at all. AND the car still bucks anywhere below 1500rpm. So I'm lost.

is it cammed? or pretty much stock?

usually a surging happens if a cam was installed and the computer tune isnt quite right.

It's got a Lunati Voodoo 228/232 cam, and was tuned. I have the dyno sheets. The car surges, but its intermittent and ONLY once the car has warmed up. It will surge between 5 and 10 times, and then levels itself out. It hasnt gotten to the point of cutting out, but kinda worries me. I just bought this car and I'm starting to feel not quite as enthusiastic about it as I did when I bought it. Especially since I don't know what to do to fix it.

its the tune, if the idle tune is off, it will surge a little then settle down. I found this out when I put a cam in my trans am back 8 or so years ago and tried tuning it myself with ls1edit.

im not sure where you are located, but the guy that did my tune is down in waldorf and is excellent.

pm me if you want more info.

Update, boys and girls. I took my car to a "tuner" on Saturday. Paid 160 bones for him to try and iron out the driveability issues my car has (bucking at low rpms, surging intermittently, running WAY rich). He has an LS1 Camaro with similar mods, and he copied the tune from that and put it into my car as a base to start from. After fiddling around for a couple hours and going on 2 test drives, the car still surges, bucks even worse when coasting in any gear, and the throttle even hangs at 2400 rpm in neutral at speeds above 1 mph. I'm gonna replace my bufu'd air bridge and take the car back to him...He said it would be free to redo.

I'm beginning to ask myself, what did I get myself into...? This car is costing me more money than I can afford. What the hell am I doing? I'm just a dumb kid with a decent job.

You need to get a professional tune and level off the A/F ratios.
There are a number of tuners in the tri-state area that can help. It may cost some $$, but it will be a fun dependable vehicle once it's done correctly. Shoot me a pm and I can tell you some shops that have worked on mine or I know of cars they worked on.

redo a tune that did nothing to fix? I would change out the tuner

if the air bridge was a mess, he should've told you to get squared away before plugging in the cable

all your HVAC controls work?

these cars have about 50 extra features that will show up w/ time, one is vac lines cracking or rotting from leaking batt.'s, almost all techs will break the vac line on the back of the intake if not careful

Yea, he mentioned it would be kinda difficult since the car had already been tuned once or twice. Ugh.

Well, he hooked up the cable without even popping the hood. So I dunno. I guess I'll just have him return it to as close to normal as it can be...and then just deal with it for a while.

if you did not get verbally abused and the tuner did not raise the hood..........

might get another tuner

I always send cars w/ a special twist, like hooking about the vac line to the screw on the BOV and not the valve, always get's em'

I know owning a sports car is supposed to be slightly painful, but I didn't think it would be this bad. I feel like I'm in way over my head.

I have a friend with a C5Z, and he mentioned taking the car to FBodyCentral in Crofton MD. They used to be in Bmore, but they moved recently. Has anyone ever heard of this place, or dealt with them? I'm thinking I need a professional tune. Might as well get the dyno tune and the whole kit'n'kabootle while I'm up there. Thanks in advance.

FBC doesnt have a dyno anymore, they moved to a different location a while back....plus Larry is the one that taught FBC's tuner.

if theres something mechanical wrong, Jason is really good.

I dunno. I just feel a little discouraged after the outcome of the situation. I didn't feel that I should've had to ask him what he was doing. But oh well. Guess I'll take it back and see if we can't figure this thing out.

Jesse please get int touch with me as soon as possible. I was very clear with you from the start that if things weren't right as soon as I hooked up my cable we were committed. You understood the implications before my cable even touched the car. And it wasn't until some time after where you conveniently mentioned that the air bridge was leaking BEHIND the MAF. I explained to you the implications of this and told you to fix it and come back to so I could make it right, I also told you I would work with it as LONG as it took to make sure you were satisfied with the car. I did not copy my tune from my car and slap it in yours either. I took my IDLE tables and used that as a starting point. You were also aware of what I was doing. I didn't do anything secretly, I was verbal and vocal throughout the whole process.

Steve Doten

I am a Tuner and was hired as such. I am not a mechanic, with that being said there is no reason for me to pop the hood and look at anything when through previous conversations with the customer he neglected to tell me there was a lingering issue. Had the customer been up front from the beginning during our first conversations I wouldn't have even lightened him up the 160.00.

Pick up the phone giv'em a call. Communicating online never works out. Just ask my ex-wife, I told her I was 6'3", 190lbs., goodlooking, and hung like a horse in an online chat room before we got married, LOL! No wonder it didn't work out.
