10 Years

I found corvetteforum.com in February 2000 and spent most of the first year here lurking. I was learning a lot about the car in the technical sections. Not much was going on in the northeast section at that time in my area but there was a member “Mr. Mojo” who was a moderator and event coordinator who seemed to do a few events over in NJ. I decided to try my hand in setting up an event. I figured it would be great to go out and have breakfast then go for a cruise. I posted up the first breakfast on Sunday January 14, 2001. The response and turnout was not great, George and Beverly (friends from the 40th anniversary registry) attended and a guy by the name of Mike Moran (Mike69) showed up with his 1969 Daytona yellow with a ZZ4 motor in it. We ate breakfast then cruised out to Valley Forge Park.
Not to be discouraged about the poor turnout I planned another breakfast for February 3, 2001 and was pleased by a better turn out. 6 Corvettes turned out along with Mike Moran who showed up in his new BMW. “Mr. Mojo”, Frank Shear, showed up and I got to meet this forum celebrity.
Frank was planning an event on March 18, 2001 to cruise out to a light house near Surf City down the New Jersey seashore. Frank had a good turnout of about 10 Corvettes.
I set up an event to get breakfast and then do go karts at Arnolds near Limerick for March 25, 2001. I had 6 Corvettes show up with a few guys riding shot gun. Nothing gets speed freaks going like some go kart competition, we all had a blast. Mike Moran topped it off with a great burn out in Arnold’s parking lot. I met Chris Coriell, Carl Neff and Edgar Perez that day, all great people and just as insane about Corvettes as all of us!
As I’m lurking on the forum one day I come across a post where the author is sharing a personal story about his triumph over cancer. As I’m reading more of the story it sounds familiar. A high school acquaintance of mine had a very similar situation and also owned several Corvettes. I sent him an email asking if he was Frank Agent. Turns out I was correct and I made a reconnection with another Corvette enthusiast. April 22, 2001 we attended our first of many events together a cruise down to the New Jersey shore that Mr. Mojo had set up. It was a cruise to Circus Hamburger. Frank and I had a great time there and great cruise home, we both got sun burnt from having our targa tops off.
I had read about the spring cruise down on Skyline Drive in Virginia and decided to attend. Jeanne was unable to go so since my brother Doug lives in Virginia about an hour from the starting point I invited him to accompany me and he accepted. April 29, 2001 Doug and I enjoyed a Skyline Drive cruise with about 80 other Corvette enthusiasts. This was the first time I met Jim Strathern and wife Linda. Jim had been running this cruise through the national park in the spring and fall. I believe this was the third such trip. Mr. Mojo and some of the NJ crew were there. As of the writing of this, that was the only time the Ruby almost stranded me. After we had stopped for lunch it would not start. It would turn on and crank but no start. During my moment of panic Napa Craig suggested it maybe the VATS. I had left my keys on the console in the sun during lunch, could the sun have heated up the key pellet and changed the resistance value enough? I waited the 4 minutes for the system to reset while keeping the keys cool and tried again, she started right up as she had done so many times before and so many times since!
May is always the corvetteforum cruise in at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. There was a local group going but I was unable to take the time off. However Mike Moran and I met up with the group for a go kart session at Arnold’s as they were in route to Bowling Green. Edgar Perez was cruising his new red C5, while Chris Coriell was cruising Edgar’s old ride a C4 as he had blown up his C5.
Earlier in the year I was approached by forum member Joe Vuto asking me to help him promote a Corvette show he was producing in the summer. I agreed and worked with Joe in promoting, planning and running this show. Joe had secured a good location at the flea market in Limerick. The show was set for August 11, 2001 and it rained hard most of the day. The big lesson learned was to always have a rain date! I was really just Joe’s side kick on this he was responsible for 99% of the efforts and success. Despite the rain we had about 35 Corvettes show up. Mr. Mojo was responsible for about 8 of that 35 as he brought a bunch from NJ. Probably the second biggest thing I learned that was how much work producing such a show was.
I spent 2 full hot August days at Corvettes at Carlisle checking out everything and every inch of the fair grounds. What an education and experience that year’s Carlisle was and I was exhausted!
Vettes at Glasstown is a show in southern NJ. On September 9, 2001 Jeanne and I attended this with Charlie, Peg and of course the NJ crew. It is a nice show and location. I won my first trophy for the Ruby!
George, Beverly, Frank, Iva, Charlie, Peg, Jeanne and I planned to attend a concurs judged car show at NuCar Chevrolet in Delaware ran by the Corvette Club of Northern Delaware in October 2001. I spent the preceding 2 weeks cleaning every nook of the Ruby in preparation. After we pulled in and parked everyone was putting on the final touches, I saw guys with small vacuums and lint rollers. Right there I knew I out of my league! All my efforts from the past 2 weeks was for nothing but a clean car for me. I decided right there no more concurs judged shows.
Now we were starting to have fun. Jeanne now wanted her own Corvette so in October 2001 we bought her 40th anniversary Ruby vert!
I had such a blast at the spring Skyline that Jeanne wanted to go to the fall one. The NJ crew got together and we went down on Friday. That Friday night was a night to remember!
The end of October 2001 we took both Rubies to the Smithville show.
November 2001 we took a trip to New Hope.
To cap off the end of the year we had a tattoo party December 2001.
Can anyone guess who got the C5 emblem?
It’s hard to remember everything and pictures sure help a lot but for 2002 looks like things didn’t start up until April when we took a trip set up by MikeG826 a bridge tour up near New Hope. This was a popular event and Mike and Heather did several times this year. Here is the April 13, 2002 Bridge Tour which also included a stop at the Sandcastle Winery:
May 4, 2002 a few of us took a run down to St. Michaels in MD:
The beginning of June Jeanne and I held a Corvette BBQ at our house, it was also the unveiling of my new garage:
June 8, 2002 we went to the Vineland Cruise, lots of different cars there!
The guy parking everyone on Main St has the exact same tattoo as me!
Traditionally Father’s Day weekend was always Mojo’s Crab Cruise. I believe this was the 2nd year of this trip and either the second or third Crab Cruise. No trip was ever complete with Mike69 w/o Mike having a mechanical issue!
The infamous go karts!
July 4th, 2002 was the Stars and Stripes caravan. A group of us drove the Maryland House Rest stop to meet up with the caravan. It was an incredibly hot day and everyone was trying to get a piece of the shade tree!
Somehow I missed having pictures of this 2002 Carlisle but the next weekend MikeG826 held his second Bridge Tour Cruise:
The middle of September brought Mojo’s fall Crab Cruise:
October 19, 2002 was the third Bridge Tour again set up by Mike. There was an incredible turn out! The most memorable thing about this tour was there was just too many Corvettes to keep everyone together. We all got split up, I was leading a group (totally lost) and we came to a 4 way stop sign intersection. As I sat there for a moment trying to decide which direction to go part of our group pulls up from one of the other directions so we were getting out of the cars to see who knew what direction to go. Then another group comes up from the 3rd and a second later another group pulls up from the last direction! At least we were all together and Mike led the way to the next destination. This trip also included a stop at the Sandcastle Winery.
October brought the famous Smithville show with Frank grabbing another trophy:
The year closed out with a Holiday party in December
March of 2003 brought an event set up by Mr. Mojo a breakfast cruise to Long Beach Island:
The 3 Stooges!
April 2003 I set up my first Poker run:
April 2003 Joe Vuto set up a breakfast at a buffet in Lancaster County:
June 2003 Mr. Mojo’s Spring Crab Cruise, including the infamous gokarts!
Andy from Delaware and Tamiza from California met on CorvetteForum and married!
The end of June we cruised to Big Top Hamburgers. I’ll never forget that high speed return trip down route 422!
July 4th 2003 weekend Eric VonHa took us to breakfast then to French Creek State Park. Anyone remember who got yelled at by the park guards for doing a burn out?
The middle of July 2003 we went to Bubee’s restaurant in Mount Joy, PA. The dining room is actually about 3 stories underground in a cave/tunnel that was part of the underground railroad. Very cool restaurant, been wanting to go back for over 6 years now!
August of 2003 Jeff “Zipity” Duda took us to the Statue of Liberty:
A group shot of Forum members at Carlisle 2003:
September 14, 2003 I set up another Poker Run. This run was a benefit for a forum member Jack78 who had recently passed away. His sister attended in Jack’s Corvette:
September 21, 2003 at the Ocean City Boardwalk show:
Mr. Mojo’s Fall 2003 Crab Cruise!
The end of September 2003 MikeG826 was at it again and set up the first Grand Canyon Cruise:
Here is the actual PA Grand Canyon!
Sunday lunch on the way home:
November 2003 MikeG826 set up another Bridge Tour:
2004
January 3 2004 we had a Holiday Party. I had a lot of help in putting it together mostly from Jeff “Zipity” Duda and our wives!
February 11 2004, I took delivery of this!

February 29 leap year day! I planned a cruise to get together and cruise to Charlie’s Hamburgers, the weather turned out to outstanding that day and although I had about 8 confirmed over 30 Corvettes showed up!
April 14, 2004 we did another Poker Run. This one was to benefit the Avon Charity.
These two guys seem to show up at everything!
The beginning of May we did a week long Corvette vacation with Roger, Eric and Charlie and Peg. We basically did a loop to the NCM and back. We stopped and ran the Tail of the Dragon among other things. The most memorable incident on that trip was when we were about 2 – 3 hours from the NCM going through a small town and a truck must have spilled some of it’s load. The road was covered in dead chickens for about 50 feet. We slipped and slide through it and just when we though we were OK the smell came up from the chickens hitting the hot exhausts! Despite that, this was a great trip!
May 22, 2004 ECS held an open house:
July 10th, 2004 Zipity took us to Cabela’s for a cruise and lunch:
No pictures of Carllisle this year, it was probably too hot to get the camera out

The end of September brought the Grand Canyon Cruise around. This year Mike had to bail out on the planning so I took over setting up this event. I got the hotel/motel mixed up and we ended up staying in the old hotel on the main street. Didn’t matter as everyone had a great time!
Good ole Chuck, RIP
The fall Crab Cruise by the famous Mr. Mojo! Oct 16, 2004
Then comes Skyline Drive Cruise by Jim Strathern at the end of October. IS that Mojo Zainoing his ride!
Mike had the first c6 in the crowd, I was following him into park and we’re listening on the FRS and 2 gals (in other vettes) busting on Mike’s choices of red customization. I’m watching him listen and laugh in his rearview, after they were done ranting about his car Mike gets on the FRS and thanks them, I don’t think we heard from them the rest of the trip! The infamous silver Corvette with red tape all over it

Between the 2004 holidays I held a “MOD” day. I don’t think there was much going on except John Mulhern changing a light bulb!
Good old Kerbeck set up and ran a Poker Run down the shore April 8, 2005:
Earlier in 2005 Will had approached me to install Hurst shifters in his and my Ruby. I resisted because I didn’t see the need. Eventually one day he calls me and says I just bought 2 when are we going to install them? So we set it up and did it. Fairly easy job to do (with a lift) but the big news was it is a very nice upgrade. Now I had to have one for the ZR1. I fished around the usual suppliers and ended up buying 3 for a real good price. I posted up “Shifter Day” and quickly had 2 other members that wanted one to. Plus a third member asked if we could do his too as he had one sitting in a box. April 23, 2005 we did 4 installs in one day. Mojo, Tim, Chuck and myself all got upgraded that day. We had a lot of help too!
April 30, 2005 was Spring Skyline:
The memorable part of this trip was leaving the cruise to visit my brother at his lake house about an hour away. Scott, Jacki, Ed and Kathy came with us. On the way to Winchester Scott pulls next to me at a red light and we hit it on the green light while Ed laid back. We are ***** out when we crested a small hill when coming the other way was Johnny law, he hit his lights and made a quick U turn right in front of ED. Scott and I saw him hit his lights so we were actually pulled over by the time he go to us. We lucked out and were let go with no tickets. Ed pulled into a parking lot and was able to snap this classic picture!
May 15, 2005 another Cabela’s trip was set up. I think Brian did this one. We cruised some great back roads.
We stopped in Jim Thorpe!
June 8, 2005 time for Crabs again!
July 23, 2005 we took a run up to the Poconos for some ice cream to Cruisers Corner:
July 29, 2005 The event to top all events, the mystery cruise. I posted up the date but would not tell anyone where we were going. I even made motel reservations for everyone to keep the destination secret! I got with Lance and he opened his Dad’s garage for us. After the Miller’s garage we landed at the motel and had a catered dinner. Here’s the first meet point, you should know where this is

The second meet point on the PA turnpike:
Now here’s a garage!
Dinner:

I saw some pictures of when I had hair, not much hair, but more than I do now. Also saw a picture of our black convertible.
It seems these days the only events I am planning are "play Dates" and Corvettes aren't included. Noelle celebrated her 1st birthday yesterday!
And I thought the garage tour, was sub-titled "Jeff shopping for a lift day".

I promise to set something up this year.
Here's to another 10 years my friend! No let's see some pictures of all the Forum members houses you helped improve.
Thanks for posting this John... I look forward to more cruises with or without the Vette.
