Springfield, MA tornado yesterday

My parents live in east Spfld. and I spent some time trying to get thru to them.
The tornado touched down not too far from them but they were lucky, as most were.
Thoughts go out to the injured, folks that lost homes and especially those that lost a loved one.
Glad you made it thru safe my friend!

Team—
To put this all in perspective….
On Wednesday evening, around 4:30 I was enjoying the moments leading up to my eldest daughter attending her first prom. True to myself, we were running late and had to change plans last minute for pictures—my daughter’s date lived in Monson and there was no way we could get to his house in time and still make the group gathering…..so we re-routed the dates family to our home. Come to find out, her dates family lost every tree in their yard—no way in or out. I sent my daughter to the prom in between two major tornados’ (not knowing it)…..I thought the rain and hail was odd, but thought nothing of it. As we were driving down one side of the mountain, the tornado was barreling up the other side. The place where the prom was held was turned into a shelter as the event went on……I had no idea where she was or if she was OK….not a great feeling as a parent. Meanwhile, I had my three younger daughters at home trying to be brave as the 2nd tornado tracked directly towards us (the news actually named our STREET as the direction the tornado was tracking). You get through it because you don’t have a choice.
I was born and raised in Springfield. I graduated from Cathedral High School—which had its entire gym ripped off. I have two family members in Springfield who no longer have homes…..one was condemned yesterday, and one is just GONE….as in, GONE. It is surreal to think that we celebrated family events in these dwellings and now “poof” gone. How do you express your thoughts and feelings to people who have lost EVERYTHING—their home, their personal belongings, their dreams, their sense of normalcy and their life as they know it…..I’m sorry just doesn’t cut it.
Our home sustained minimal damage. Others in my community did not fare as well. But Wilbraham is a STRONG community and we are rallying together to get through this…..one day at a time. Our office here in town re-opened on Friday, and it felt good to be around people who were experiencing the same emotions as you (plus the AC was a welcome change!!). I have always said, from day one when I began working at ********* what a fortunate person I was—to be surrounded by such genuine, wonderful human beings is such an amazing gift. I appreciate the opportunity that I have been given, and strive to give 110% every day to my team. So, thank you to **** for acknowledging the severity of what took place here this past week, and for putting forth the effort of offering help to those in need. Also, thanks to my team members who have already pledged a donation or plan to in the near future—I know it will make a difference. On behalf of myself, my husband Scott and our four daughters we are donating $50.00….it’s not as much as I would like, but it’s what we can do….and I know every little bit helps.
From the bottom of my heart….THANK YOU.
Best,
M
