If you're in Jersey, ECS is your best choice, if you're in New York then I'd go with The Vette Doctors (both great shops and great friends!) - wouldn't recommend any other shops...

Hi new to corvettes and to this forum. Was wondering if anyone can rec commend a good mechanic to work on a 2001 vette.
I am located in Union County NJ.
thanks.
Welcome to the Corvette Forum and congratulations on finally getting a Corvette. Don't forget to waive to other Corvettes! What type of work are you looking to have done?
About to try to replace headlight gear, soon as it gets here. As I have moaned on other threads, time was when I thought nothing of rebuilding an engine or doing brakes, or whatever. Its been a long time since I have done any real mechanical work, so I wanted to get a recommendation for a good vette mechanic/tech, just in case I screw things up really badly.
This forum is a rare find. You will not only find good people with a common interest but some real fanatics who can answer almost any question about the car and back it up with part numbers, diagrams and instructions.
Welcome. Sounds like you've had quite a bit of experience if you've gotten into some serious engine work before. Use all the resources here, and do searches. There are plenty of threads about people changing cams, heads, throttle bodies, and all sorts of other things. Just do a search or post up a question here or on the tech section for whatever series car you have c1, c2, c3,etc . You'll get all the info you need.
What a great group. I belong to a few forums, music related, and thought they were full of supportive, nice people... but the responses here are overwhelming.
As far as experience, it was a long time ago. I actually graduated from Aviation High in Long Island City. And worked through college at an outfit that worked on Trucks primarily. Did some Backyard work on my own cars, just enough to keep them reliable and safe.
Most of what I learned there is obsolete. Things have progressed since 1967.
Then again some things have not.
I am hoping that there will be a minimum things that I will have to do to the vette. Plan is to keep it stock and very drivable.

You can't go wrong with the guys from ECS - they are the best !
2001 is a great year for the C5's ( I obviously have one ) !!
As far as the headlight gear - there is someone here on trhe forum that makes these gears out of brass much better then the plastic OEM gears. Do a search on Brass Headlight gears and I think you'll find some valuable info on this subject
