Requesting some help on possible transport.
I just received orders to Bangor, WA im currently here in Kittery,Maine. My dilemma is iam ordered to detach from my current command on JAN 19 2012, until then i have garage to store the car for the winter months however im trying to decide the best route for when i detach should i have the car shipped to my home of record in california and fly to pick it up then drive it to washington (i do not have an address in washington yet) or what are the chances of driving from here to washington during these winter months ive been here on the east coast for about 3 years but yet to see a winter because of being deployed i hear stories of the winters being awful out here and so i do not want to risk it, at the sametime i hear horror stories of using car transport companies as well, any insight, suggestions or a plan would be great, the navy will not pay to ship the vehicle however they will pay to drive it but that is the least desirable method imo. i have a few months to make a decision but i want to ensure i have a plan so im not rushed to get it out of here and take the proper time to prepare. im open to all and any ideas.
There are many auto transportation companies out there. I've had cars shipped with no issues. Just got to do some homework before you choose one.
Do you have a sponser out in Bangor? If so, you could have the car shipped to his address. Or you could leave the car in the care of of your current shipmates and have it shipped when you have a new address.
I would not reccomend driving from Maine to WA. I made the trip from WA to CT and it took 5 days. You could do it in less, but you'll be beat. The winter weather would be a hinderance also.
