Default Autocross

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get started/involved in autocross. I am in central Jersey and thought it could be fun to do a little competitive driving. I want to just go see how an autocross event works before I enter...

Any advise or links to events?

Thanks!

Not too much in NJ (too many regs) but there is plenty in PA. Check out NCCC. I believe a BMW club runs out at Nassau Coliseum and ocasionally a Solo event comes to the Meadowlands. SCCA used to run at Ft. Dix but I haven't heard anything about that in years.

I would like to really drive my vette in something other than the 1/4 mile. Let me know if you hear anything. I am not far from you, I am in Old Bridge. I hear raceway park as a road course now but I don't think we would get out of 2nd gear, I think it is more for the little 4 cylinder imports. I was looking into NJMP. The membership is a bit rich for my blood right now and I doubt I would make use of the 30 member only events. I have been keeping my out for non-member events. I will keep you posted, please do the same.

I'll be moving out there next week. I've been looking into Southern NJ SCCA, I'll keep you posted. I know they have an event coming up next weekend. Look up their web site, not sure if the schedule will go through because of the weather.

Anyone know of a good NCCC for Central NJ. I'll be looking into more the Philly area. Ill be living around Ft Dix myself. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies guys! I really rather not travel to PA for autocrossing but if worse comes to worse I might try it.

I heard raceways parks course is decent but its a track with walls and other stuff. I am not experienced in racing at all so that would be a no-go for me. I need a nice wide open parking lot with nothing to hit ! Its also relatively expensive as you stated and you need to take their course to learn how to drive...

The medowlands sounds promising... Definitely keep me posted on that! If I hear anything, I will let you guys know. I have been asking around as well!

Check out www.autox4u.com. It will give you info on autocrosses throughout the NJ, NY and Eastern PA region.

The SCCA South Jersey Region has been hosting autocrosses and solos for many years. I use to run SJR events in the 80's. This year they've been running at Bader Field in Atlantic City (only a couple blocks from Kerbeck). For more info, check their website www.sjr-scca.org.

The Philly Region of the SCCA (www.phillyscca.com) runs solos at various locations, including the parking lot at Lincoln Financial Field.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no NCCC sanctioned Corvette clubs in NJ.

If I were you, I'd check with Englishtown drag strip. When I run at the strip, I usually see them auto crossing on a huge flat space in the paved parking lot. I know they occasionally run it on the road course but I think that's the exception.

Yea, I might stop by one day to ask someone there...
I was hoping someone would jump in saying they know of one that is cheap and small. I heard brookdale community college has one but I cant find it anywhere online. That would be a good place to start Autocrossing!

I did my first autocross with the SCCA today, and had a great time. I found it thru here... http://www.motorsportreg.com/

IMO, when you see one you want to go to, just sign up. There was walk-up registration today, but that was all done before any driving so I don't think you could sign up after it starts. Otherwise you'll get there and kick yourself when you see everyone else driving!

I had no idea what to do either, but they will walk you thru it. I asked a ton of questions (usually followed by "I'm new at this") and everyone was real nice, plus I parked with the other Vettes. Wish I would have started this at the begining of the season!

Found this link. Not sure if it is only open to the Westfield BMW club though.

I saw that too... It says non-BMWs are allowed (category X) and that non members are allowed but the priority goes to members...

The guy you want to speak to is Ernie Anderson. He is solo committee chairman for northern New Jersey region of SCCA. He's the guy I saw running the autocross at Englishtown drag strip. In the SCCA bulletin his number is listed as 732-469-3458. Good luck, I'm still trying to master drag racing.

The Philly SCCA is a great group. You can ask ANYBODY question and they will help you out.

Before every event they have a novice walk thru on the course and explain how to run thru the course.

If you ever get the chance, I would highly recommend you get to at least one event at Warminster Community Park. It's held on an old runway. Great long course!!!!!!

Sweet!!! Thanks for the info! This is why I posted the question because I figured people would know local events (although not local to me lol)
