Default Visiting Maryland

Hello From Oregon
I will be spending two weeks @ the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Dec 11 thru Dec 22. Was kind of wondering what I should go see while I am there if and when I have some time off from classes. Should I go to Gettysburg or would I be better off hitting the DC area and taking in the sites. Vietnam Memorial? I figure I have one weekend that I can sight see.
Thanks,
Larry

Hi, you'll be close to Gettysburg and while it very interesting, you can take in alot in a day walking around DC. The Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln, WWII, Korean, Washington (closed for repair), Martin L. King, Jefferson and FDR Memorials are all close in proximity. A bit further you can get to Arlington National Cemetery, White House and a few Museums. If the weather holds out a bit longer it wouldn't be too bad walking around there. If its a one time trip to the east DC would be something to see...
Best of luck.

Definitely go to DC - Viet Nam Memorial, National Air & Space Museum, Smithsonian, Natural History Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Tomb of the Unknowns in nearby Arlington, VA, etc, etc. Lots of great restaurants and bars in DC and nearby Georgetown, too.

Enjoy your trip!!!

Gettysburg would be a great place if you are short on time and only have about a half day or so to spare since you are only 12-15 miles away from there. So you may be able to get in both places during your stay.

But as others have said....DC would be your best option for a full-day or weekend excursion!

Do both if you get the chance. DC is first on the list. I always say it's like being a Roman in Ancient Rome. You walk around and the building are just overwhelming. Don't shortchange the monuments they are well worth seeing. I've done the museums in daytime and monuments at night. Enjoy.

Sounds Good guys............
Now if one of you wouldn't mind me borrowing a Corvette, I'll be set.Just leave the fob on top of the right rear tire and make sure the gas tank is full. When I'm done, I'll email you where I left it
I guess I will have to wait and see what is going on.From what I have heard from others that went to the academy is usually a bunch of guys rent a car and go do these sights.
I just hope the weather holds as I have visions of me stuck in the Baltimore airport Christmas Day,in the middle of the worst blizzard in 20 years

Hah, just steal one! Maryland's a sanctuary state so you won't have to serve any time even if you do get caught!

Enjoy your visit.
