Well with the weather being so nice, I had to go for a ride. Went down to exit 98 and to the Belmar Board walk.
decided to remove the top for the ride home. This is the first time I have driven on a highway without the top. Very different than a convertible. A lot of wind buffeting and noisy. Was able to reduce some of the buffeting by adjusting the windows but have to say while it was fun, I don't see myself doing this a whole lot. Still driving with the sun above has its positive points.
Its great fun on local streets and much quieter when driving 55, but who drives 55 on a highway.
Although it is a COOL thing having the Targa Top.....I dont drive around a whole lot with it off. Mainly I find it seemingly time consuming & PIA to ratchet off the four bolts....to take her for a cruise.... when I do find the time to enjoy one...... (Wife Kids, work and caring for an Elderly parent). But thats OK because it sort of keeps it a novelty where when I do pop the top off...I appreciate it more.
I live in Point Pleasant.....My absolute favorite thing on a warm spring or summer night is to pop the top , take a cruise on the GSP down to LBI & back....just to stretch her legs.
My C4 and C5 cars were coupes. The C4 was a real pain with those bolts, and the C5 wasn't too bad with the 3 easy to open catches. I found that with the windows up all the way, the wind buffeting was annoying, It wasn't too bad with the windows down.
However, I got a vert a few months ago, and I really like the ease of dropping the top. I also have a wind screen for the rear of the passenger space, and it really does help, although it isn't too bad at all with just the top down.
All in all though, I'm really enjoying having a vert. Too bad I waited so long to get one!!!
One of the advantages of my Vert is that the wind buffeting is not really a problem.
Since I really only take it out on nice days, I'd say that the top is down about 90% of the time.
I had considered a wind screen when I first got the car, but it looked like more of a PIA than it was worth and the wind wound up not being much of a problem.

My car had a windscreen with it. It just slides right down into two brackets on either side of the passenger compartment, and takes two minutes to do. It came with a carry bag that easily fits into the trunk to protect it when not in use. It definitely makes it less windy inside the car, but I have only used it when it was kind of cool out, so it helped keep it a bit more comfortable.I probably wouldn't have bought one, but since it came with the car, I kind of like the look of it, and it's slight, but still noticable benefits.
I got a couple of hours seat time in today with the top down. It was fantastic. Hoping to get the GTO out for a cruise tomorrow or the next day.
Looks like the boat will be back in early this season too. Can't wait to try out the new motors.
I'm almost ashamed to say I have never had the top off the 2003 ever ! But in my defense is the fact that I'm a 'Coupe or a convertible' type individual. I've had the top off the C4 and I never like it. The C5 's top doesn't leak (air or water) is solid and all the seals are perfectly tight. So I never took the time to even try it topless !

You are talking two completely different animals, a C4 and a C5. The body on my C4 would twist and turn and sqeek like crazy with the top off ( and with it on too for that matter).
The C5 was a whole different thing. It went on and off easy, and the body was still rigid and pretty much felt the same top on or topless. Much nicer car to be in from my perspective. My C6 vert is pretty tight and rigid, without much wind buffeting at all with the top down. Had it out yesterday lovin' it.
