McGuire/Dix (NJ) Open House & Air Show
McGuire AFB & Ft. Dix (NJ) are holding a joint base open house & air show this coming weekend (May 12th/13th). There will be performances by the Army Golden Knights parachute team & the Air Force Thunderbirds aerobatic team, plus many more dynamic & static performances & displays.....including KC-10, C-17 & B-1 flyovers. Full details are at "www.jbmdlopenhouse.com". If you like to see military hardware, this show is a hoot.

The Thunderbirds put on a pretty good show, but are usually upstaged by the C-17 Demo!!!!! I'll be there, just wondering who came up with the dates? Mother's day?????really..somebody didn't look at the calendar.

The website provides directions to the base plus the events schedule, info on what you can & cannot bring with you, concessions, parking, etc. The start of events both Saturday & Sunday is at 11:00, but the gates open at 8:00 & I would recommend getting there early. There's usually a huge crowd & getting thru security can be a slow process. The static displays should be available once the gates open so it's not like hanging around with nothing to do for a couple of hours.

I will also bring my in-laws, they are here from the Philippines and i am sure have never seen a live display of American air power

Bring a chair for the older folks, there is alot of walking because the ramp is large and parking may be farther away. They usually set up shuttle buses to bring people to the ramp. Once the flying starts there is no bad seat in the house so sit wherever you wishI I think the forecast is in the 70's so it won't be too hot. My advice, especially with older folks is to sit far away from the flightline, you can see the show just fine but can make a quick exit if need be, enjoy it
Jet Noise, the Sound of Freedom!!!
PS stop by the 732AS (C-17 unit) stand and support my squadron, I'll be there as well for a few hours

What a great show this is. I met a few of the ground crew that worked along side my brother on the B1B out of Dyess, that was cool. Its also pretty amazing at how small a fighter is. I was very impressed at how nimble a C-17 is.

Some of my Soldiers will be displaying MRAPs and working one of the booths, I'll be there both days in uniform. If you see a Army LTC with last name of Griffin say hi. The Corvette only parking area will be at the end of the runway.

I'm in for Saturday, gates open at 8am. I will most likely come back on Sunday. LTC, is there really going to be a corvette area?

When I was stationed at Fort Dix a bazillion years ago, I seem to remember the runway at McGuire being two miles long and almost extending onto Range Road at Fort Dix.
So if the parking is at the end of the runway, then you will have a long walk.

I was stationed there as a Crew Chief on C141-B's from 88-92. I used to dread the air shows with all the garbage left behind. We would be doing F.O.D walks for hours!!!!
But all the different aircraft was defantly worth seeing!!
