I'm going to Ithaca as a starting point for some winery tours for one day and a few other to knock around on the motorcycle (the wine tour will be on a bus by the way)
Are there any 'interesting' places to go to, nice roads to travel around the lake.
And finally, where could one put a boat in the water for another time when I go up with the boat... I wanted to ride and check some of those places out as well.
Definitely head over to Watkins Glen.....both the town & the track (presuming there's some event going on at the track). In town, the Watkins Glen State Park is a terrific place to visit.....hiking the trail up past the waterfalls is a real hoot!
...and there are several marinas on the lake in town....
There are roads that run along all of the Finger Lakes, can't go wrong with any of them. Scenery is incredible around the whole area, just don't expect to make great time, lots of traffic. If you get into Syracuse, check out Dinosaur BBQ, great biker hangout and great food.
I agree with the above. There are roads all around the lakes and you can't go wrong with any of them. Watkins Glen is a nice little town, although it takes forever to get through on the weekends, especially if there's an event at the track. Taughannock Falls that someone linked to above are nice. There are a lot of other great falls and gorges in the Ithaca area too. Buttermilk, Ithaca Falls, Robert Tremen, Cascadilla, and a little one not many people seem to know about just past Buttermilk. Just up the east side of Cayuga Lake is a small town called Aurora that's worth a stop if you're cruising around the lakes. You can put in a boat in Watkins, at Taughannock, or at Alan Tremen park in Ithaca. There are a few other places too. Shoot me a PM if you want any more info; I live in Ithaca and work in Watkins Glen so I know the area fairly well.
