As some of you may know, my friends and I run the 24 Hours of LeMons race series. We have been doing this since 2009.
This past weekend we had the pleasure of racing at the Monticello Motor Club. It is a lucky place for us because we managed our first victory.
Our little 1992 Saturn SL2 managed to take the Class B title by a scant 6 laps. After 14.5 hours of racing, 5 driver changes with one full pit stop (driver change and full fueling) complete in under 4minutes we took the checkered flag. Here is the write up for the event. We are so happy and can't wait for our next race at NJMP in August.
A big congrats to a well deserving hard working team. We'll see you in August, hopefully as competitors but definately as spectator/cheerleaders.

Thanks all. It is a real blast. Feel free to pick my brain on anything. We started doing this in 2009 and have a bunch of races under our belt. We fielded a second car this year too. It is a 1970 BMW 2800. It is car #39 and the Saturn is car #29.

Congratulations. Funny thing is I have been trying to convince a guy I work with to sell me his Saturn SL2 that has been sitting in our office parking lot for 5 years, so that I could use it for a lemons race.

They work pretty well as a LeMons car. The SCCA guys ran the coupes for years. Parts are plentiful. We have had multiple parts cars and a wagon that we still use for parts with a full drive train in it. There is a fair amount of information out there on them. They handle pretty well and when you lighten them up for races they are pretty fast. I was running out 4th on the main straight at MMC, getting close to 100mph.
We have trouble competing at the bigger tracks like NJMP though. The car just doesn't have enough oomph to keep up. Regardless, it is still a lot of fun to flog that car.

Leave the back seat in for the baby seat. Where are you going to get a helmet to fit him, if you don't get him one I'm telling your wife.

I have offered to buy it from him twice and each time he says he can probably get a little more for it, but never takes the initiative. I knew the car sitting there for so long was bugging my boss who also happens to be a car guy, so I may leverage his help and include him on the team.
A coworker of mine told me about another series he races in Texas called the Chump Car series. Said he likes it a little more than Lemons.

I think unfortunately I'll be blowing off any track time again for a year. Too many other priorities that cost money. Probably will end up buying a house in the next 6 months and take it in the shorts on my condo.
How you feeling George? May finally get back down to my MILs to cover up your artwork with some drywall. May recruit Mikey to help.

I've heard of Chump car. I've heard both good and bad things about it but depending on the person I can see why they may like it a little better.
