Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles
Anyone know the straight poop on limitations for convertibles? I got yelled at twice at E-Town for sub-14 ETs. Second time they wouldn't let me have the time slip. Is a Carravaggio removable hardtop a suitable solution to this dilemma? Anyone know for sure?? Car in question is the one in my sig.
BTW, cut a lousy light at 1.174  but got a decent ET of 13.499 @ 106.61MPH. Car is bone stock, and this was essentially my first time on the strip. I went one time before nearly 20 years ago.
Re: Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles (2manycars)
Yes a hard top is suitable for a convertible. Haven't seen the Carviggio one but yes Chris drives with a Smoothline and Tony B with a C4 also uses a hardtop. The hardtop will put you into the coupe rules where you can run up to (or is that down to?) 12.00. Under that, you will have to have a roll bar.
Another option, is a rollbar instead of a hard top, then you can run with the soft top. We have a driver with a vert running mid 13's as well that got a rollbar in it.
A third and likely least desireable option is to run 14.00 or above. It is hard but can be doen. Bob T., our defedning points champion, did it last year with a C4 convertible.
I used to have a saftey page on the http://www.corvettechallenge.info site but it got lost in my redesign. I truly apologize for that. I will put it back shortly.
Congrats on the run and thanks for coming to race with us.

Re: Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles (REDGAR)
Thanks for the info! I was down there last night with a friend. He brought his race car down to check how it's running following some work. I tagged along and figured I'd see what the car could do. They told me beforehand it couldn't break out of the 14 sec range without a bar, so I really can't make any excuses. The first run I missed 3rd and went thru the trap in 5th for a run approx 14.5 sec. The 13.499 run was my second. My buddy insisted on going to the tower to ask about my last run. I didn't feel like another butt chewing, so I didn't go. I told him to just forget about it, but he went over anyway. He knows some of the folks there. He heard back this morning that I ran 13.57 @106.10. I had backed out of 3rd gear at about 4000 RPM and dropped into 4th and let off alot. I was very near the tower that displays the time when I did this. Apparently I didn't let off early enough, since I was only about a tenth slower. :bb (The car felt like it hooked up harder, though). Anyway, the person he knows at E-Town said the hardtop would be OK for sub-14 down to 11.99, as far as he was concerned. My buddy knows someone else higher up in the food chain, and he's going to ask that person, as well. I don't think I could manage to stay above 14s, the temptation to push it as hard as possible was just too much last night. I don't want to **** them off again, they might never let me come back. If the hardtop will work, and I think it will, I'll see if I can do some side work or something this winter to get up some extra scratch for one.
Active Handling was set to Competitive Driving mode. Another Forum member from CT was there with his FRC. He ran 11.99 I think. He told me his handle, but I'm kinda hard of hearing and didn't get it right. Sorry! And it was nice to meet you! :bb *EDIT* It was BillY2KFRC. He set a new personal best for himself! Congrats!
Another guy in a black C5 coupe from NY got sideways leaving the facility at the end of the evening and hit the guardrail, wiping out the whole pass side of the car. This was on the road leading out of the park, right after the pay booths. Bummer.

Not a BUMMER just stupid.
A hard top is treated as a coupe, you would be good to 12.00.
Re: Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles (2manycars)
sorry but could somebody tell me when you can run corvettes I thought it was saturday the 31st I would have went last night.I am definatley going for a super charger and wanted some baseline figures. Also on the roll bar needed what are the requirements (I hope I can get below 12 with the supercharger )I found a set of bars in the eklers book they look like roll bars but are called roadster bars.with a note about there use.where would you get a real roll bar.I priced some tops and ther almost the cost of the SC.I realley dont want a hard top 1-exspence 2- having to lift in on and off 3- storing the thing 4-the soft top is excellent when its up no noise5- did I say exspence yet.?
Re: Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles (mackeyred96)
 anytime someone wrecks their car I think is ia a bummer weather stupid manuever or not. Perhaps he was just trying to clear the excess rubber he picked up at the track off his street tires  That said I wouldn't be launching my car on the road out of Etown, that is indeed stupid :nono:

You can run a Corvette during any time trial day (or night) that you want actually, Wednesday and Friday evenings and most Saturdays and Sundays as well.
You will definitely have a problem with the convertible rules thing even as you are right now because your car should/will run in the 13s with relative ease, even low 13s in cooler air. :yesnod:
I (and many others) still prefer a good heads and cam package over a supercharger for LS1s/LS6s but that's up to you of course. You'll want to do a good torque convertor and some drag radials as well of course.
Re: Corvette Challenge Rules for Convertibles (Ih2lose)
You can race you Vette at Raceway Park anytime they have street car events that do not exclude you. For example on import only weekends, you cannot bring your Vette.
The races we all take about here is a series called the Cartek Corvette Challenge. Our next on is August 31st.
Normally you can go
Wednesday night for just time trials
Friday nights for Time trials or a Gamblers race
Saturday night for time trials or Real Street program or of course our Corvette Challenge.
Sunday for time trials or any other class (sunday's are more expensive and much more crowded.)
Sometime there are special events like this weekend the had NHRA Sportsman series in there so only the pros could go. Next weeekend on Saturday is a GM only Saturday so you can go.
Check the schdules or post here someone on this board is usually there each day.
