Default Carlisle advice

My wife purchased us a 4 day week-end pass, got rooms reserved. I am now looking for advice to make the experience more enjoyable. Was thinking about the parade tickets, also the fun field passes, which I believe allows for closer parking.
Any recommendations will be appreciated!

To all members here have a great new year!

The fun field allows you to park you corvette right on the field, so it's part of the show. It is fun to drive in the parade, i did it one year. I never did 4 days, that is a lot, I just usually one day or two. Friday and Saturday are the big days.

Beginning this year, Corvettes at Carlisle officially begins on Thursday rather than Friday. You will receive in the mail sometime in early August the windshield sticker which allows you access in and out of the field whenever you want. Be aware, though...the field starts filling up VERY early in the morning so if you have a special place you like to park, be sure to get there EARLY!! My husband and I are usually there about 5:30 a.m.!! You don't have to go there that early. We're just nuts! By the way, the field parking is for Corvettes only.

You can buy tickets for Saturday's parade on the field. There is a lot to see and do, plus ladies activities. Bring a couple of folding chairs, cooler, suntan lotion, umbrellas (cuz it WILL rain sometime that weekend), comfortable shoes.

You will enjoy it all, I'm sure. 2016 is my husband's and my 17th year going, and we wouldn't miss it for the world.

What hotel are you staying at? There are hundreds to choose from.

Good luck!

Elaine

FTI............If you are a veteran, there is a parking area where vets only can park; if you want to.

Been to Carlisle several times. Great event. We were in the parade once. That was the year of the hurricane! Never saw two people get the top on a C6 Coupe faster than us!

Enjoy your adventure.

If your wife bought a four day pass and not the Fun Field Pass, give Carlisle events a call and see if you can exchange the four day for the Fun Field. Being on the Fun Field is just that...........that's the fun. You park your Vette right on the showfield, you're eligible for a Celebrity pick on Saturday, you'll get your goodie bag and a free t shirt, and did I mention it's the BEST parking?
As for Veteran's parking, that was a one year only event, and it was last year.
The Fun Field pass is $75 now, but they may have a sale later on (the discount of %20 just expired on the 31st.).
Fun Field is the ONLY way to go.
This is the first year that the show is officially 4 days. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the biggest days, Sunday is pretty much quiet with just the parade and award ceremony for the Celebrity Picks.

A pop up canopy is almost a MUST HAVE especially if it's hot. There's little to no shade there. You can pick one up for as little as $49 at places like Dick's or Dunham's. Even Wal Mart sells good ones. Bring a couple of folding chairs too to sit by your car. You can leave both things at the fairgrounds for the entire weekend with no worries. Been going for 12 years and never had one single thing go missing.
On Friday and Saturday morning, I recommend getting there EARLY. We're normally there around 6:30 a.m. when the weather is good. The Fun Field fills up quickly if you don't have your space saved with a canopy.
It's a great time. We enjoy walking around, riding the tram, and just sitting and watching the people and cars. And the majority of the food is good as well, and there's even a Subway on the field.
Dang, now I'm wishing August would hurry up and get here............and we didn't even have summer yet!

The parade is very cool especially if you've never done it. The set up is a little drawn out but the town cheers on the parade cars like you're rock stars! I do Fri-Sun AM. Four days might be a lot, but there's a ton to see. You have to be on fun field! Thousands of Corvettes all in one place. So many nice cars you can't imagine. Hope the weather's good. I'll be there.

That's such a great time to be there Elaine. To watch the sun come up, have breakfast, and watch the cars pull in ................. and fight for space. lol You're always there ahead of me though.

Although, that quite possibly could be my white one way up on the left. We're never parked far from each other.

I absolutely agree about being there so early. We do it every day, every year! We always have the same area, and we can see, wave, and chat with everyone. Love it!

How's this picture? This was definitely before 5:30 a.m.!!!

Sounds like setting up a pop-up tent the first day is a must. Do they allow tent stakes or just above ground
weights?

Thanks again for all the feedback folks!

Stakes are fine. I would suggest going to the store and getting the long heavy camping tent stakes. Those little "pins" that come with the tent won't cut it. It can get windy there and I lost a tent in a storm one year. At night, they ask that you drop your tent or take the top off of it. You can leave your chairs under it safely. I've seen people leave coolers and all sorts of things under their canopy.

We're are you located??

Fun field is the way to go. It's a weekend pass for both of you. My wife, daughter and I have a blast every year. This will be our 4th year. Bring a good pair of walking shoes, a hat to block the sun, and money, as the swap meet is awesome. It is by far the best car show I have ever attended.

The swap meet is the perfect place to stock up on your maintenance items as well. I know we stock up on our cleaning supplies like the stoner products, and waxes, other guys stock up on the oil like amsoil, ect.

The Fun Field pass is $75 but if you register on line before the end of July you get 10% off.

Unofficially you could always show up on Thursdays it's great because it was quiet and could check things out ahead of time.

Going on 23 years now. Great time!!!!

Thursday is now an OFFICIAL show day and will be up and running just like Friday and Saturday. This will make Wednesday the "quiet" day now.

True assuming now the vendors will want to setup on Weds means this show just turned into 5 days!
