Hi CF. I recently purchased and installed a MGW shifter. Coming from an S2000 the stock unit was...abysmal. The MGW unit is awesome. But I find that it requires much effort to shift. I was wondering if this is the norm or something is wrong. Is there was anyone in the DC/Baltimore/NoVa that has a MGW shifter installed that I could compare it to?
Ideally a C5 Z06 to compare to would be nice. Thanks.
I am not close to you, but I can say that the MGW in my 13GS does require more effort than the stock shifter. If you have the threaded shaft you can raise the **** up to help, but this will make the throws longer.

Try the anti-venom mod. I've heard it does wonders on the c5 after installing a short shifter.
I have an MGW on mine. I installed the shifter a few years ago for my Dad when he owned the car. When I would seldomly drive it I wasn't a big fan of how notchy it was. Once I bought the car and started putting some miles on it I began to love it. What I found is that it took a couple thousand miles of street driving to really break-in and get it to a point where I really like it.
Like mentioned you could drive the anti-venom mod. My Dad and I tried it a couple years back, didn't care for it but I've heard of many people who have.

We have the MGW in both the C5 and the C6Z (C5 has the shimmed detent Anti-Venom mod). I agree that the design of the MGW (the big rubber biscuit) does improve with age, and the resistance to throw and the propensity to find the neutral position on it's own gets better with age. I love ours, and along with others here invite you to shim the trans detent completely out of the picture. Mine has 3 shims making the detent non existent other than a plug to keep the trans fluid in. The only other after market shifter that even comes close to the MGW is the Kirban (Callaway uses them), and I can't tell them apart in function. The Kirban is also at least a hun more in price. Give it a chance, you will love it also.
I have an MGW shifter installed aswell as the anti venom mod done on my C5 z06. Which did make it easier. I love how it shifts. If you are near the Montgomery county area and want to compare just let me know.
