Aftermarket tint in PA in not legal, well what is legal is too light to put on your car, but that's another story, so you take you car for inspection on nice days and put the side windows down, all my cars are aftermarket tinted and I have never been hassled for that. You need cats for visible inspection, if you drive over 5,000 miles a year you will need an emission test, under 5k a year you are exempt from the test, some shops are better than others in what passes and what does not

Window tint is legal in PA as it is in most other states. There is a limit to the amount of tint allowed. Here's a PENNDOT link:

I'm a PA inspector. Tint is no longer a part of the safety inspection process. Unless you have the windshield tinted below the AS1 line. There is some variation on emission procedure depending on the county the car is registered. Some Northern PA counties just get a visual test. Counties in and around the Philadelphia and Pittsburg cities. Receive an OBD2 rediness and DTC check no visual is performed. Under 5k miles a year qualifies for an exemption.

How is your car registered? I have a Camaro registered as and Classic, and only have to get safety inspections, it is emissions exempt. My Corvette is registered Antique and there are no safety or emissions inspection requirements. These do, of course, come with the above mentioned 5,000/year mileage limit. I live in Bucks County, so it is an emissions county.

Google Pa title 67 and go to chapter 175. This is where all the inspection regulations are found.

My 2010 Corvette has Kooks headers & their catted X pipe & I have no problem with the Pa inspection, BUT, I drive less than 5k per year so my car is exempt from the emissions test. I am in the Pittsburgh area

A car will pass PA inspection with window tint. Tint was removed from state inspection failure list in 1996. However, on cars 1998 and newer, window tint must allow for 70% light transmittance. That is, 70% of the outside light must get inside. Most cars come from the factory at the legal limit in PA, so you can't add tint without attracting unwanted attention. You can received a citation for Title 75, section 4107b2, citing Title 67, 175.67d4. Many cops don't care about window tint. Some do though. The exhaust is legal as long as it includes all emission control equipment, is free from leaks, and expels exhaust gases away from the passenger cabin.

Here is PennDot Table X, guidelines for window tint.

Visually it has to have all the emissions related equipment and will not pass if the check engine light is on. It is an OBDll test meaning it checks for codes and the readiness monitors must be set. For 06 you are allowed one monitor not set and it will still pass provided all the other requirements are met. It you drive it less than 5k,it would get an exempt sticker but it will have to be tested the very first time after registration. The tint thing is not a big deal unless its limo tint. Tig
