Wait before you throw away that money, run a bottle or 2 of techron in the tank and see if that cures the problem.
I had the same problem when i had my C6 grand sport. I filled up twice with sunoco 93. A week later the gauge whacked out on me, showed half way when the tank was full. Then sometimes the needle wouldn't even move.
Drove the car as much as i could easily to get rid of the crappy sunoco. Refilled with shell 93 and added a bottle of techron and about 50 miles later the gauge fixed itself. Never had a problem from then til the time i traded it. Which was 15 months later.
