PA roads
Spent some time in PA past few days, Wilkes Barre/Scranton area, holy crap, the pot holes are huge! Thank goodness I had a rental. Not sure how those of you who live there drive your vette on those roads. Worst I have ever seen.

In PA we pay an extra $.50 per gallon for a road tax, but the state police took $5 Billion from the fund, so now the roads don't get fixed, and i never see a state police on my 50 mile one way commute to work.

I drive 35 miles each day to work on I 81. My ride on Route 61 from Pottsville to Frackville is a challenge with holes. Once I get on 81 the road was repaved to the Schuylkill/Luzerne county line. Once in Luzerne county, the road is shot but I only have to go two exits and I am off. I only drive my Corvette on Saturdays to work less traffic!!!!!

PA has some of the the worst maintained and congested roads in the country. Constant building and sprawl without the roads to support the additional traffic. When much needed highways are finally constructed, they are already outmoded as they were designed for yesterday’s traffic. Repairs on heavily traveled roads takes an absurd amount of time.
As stated by Proexpert and tarepas, we pay an additional gas tax that is supposed to be dedicated to road repair, but it is being used to fund other budgetary items.

What can you expect from a state whose official tree is the orange traffic cone? I have been travelling from NY to Florida for many decades, and the roads through Pennsylvania are absolutely the worst. I swear it seems like some sections have been under construction for twenty years, and still aren't any closer to done, or any better. Ridiculous.

I am telling you, I am disgusted with what I see every day. Zero accountability.
Then again, most are minorities. So go figure.

HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT OUR ROADS? They are way worst than you describe, try living here with nice cars, it's a battle everyday, THEN when they finally repave a road, two weeks later they are digging back up again. Like a battle between NIT and WIT

Having lived in both places, if you think PA is bad, you should come to MI. Here is some empirical evidence:

I dunno, this seems to be universal... I was in New England with the Navy back in the day and the roads used to beat the crap out of my TransAm. But I guess PA has similar issues with frost heave and snowplow damage. Not much better he in MD on the back roads. Just terrible. Have to be really careful on our road bikes especially in shaded areas that hide the pot holes. Give the bike a flat or take it right down.. or bend/crack a C7 GS wheel in a hearbeat.

Misallocation of funds is nothing new in PA. The PA Turnpike was supposed to be toll free after the bond was paid off. Instead, tolls keep rising faster than the rate of inflation and the Turnpike has lots of potholes. I guess those Turnpike Commissioners need their fat pay raises and hefty pensions. Then there are the incremental gas tax hikes initiated by Governor Tom Corbitt(R) and continued by Gov Wolf in sheeps clothing (D), allegedly to maintain the roads and bridges. Then there was the Blue Route debacle, which was outmoded the day it opened from the Surekill Expressway to I-95. I-80 is nothing but potholes all the way across the state. The one comment above is so true - every time a repaving project occurs, within weeks after it is finished contractors are out tearing it up to put in sewers or other infrastructure that was missed in initial planning. PA will never change. Taxes go up, roads get worse, re-elect the same corrupt politicians over and over again. Who can ever forget Governor Milton Shaft(D), who introduced to PA a state income tax that was the highest in the country at the time, and then capped that by raising the state sales tax to what was the highest rate in the country at the time. I am glad I moved out, but I feel for my siblings and in-laws who still live there.

Don't come to my part of PA. It's nothing but holes and dips and water. I've nearly lost my splitter a dozen times.

How is 81 between Scranton/Wilkes Barre and Carlisle? I drive that every year on the way to the show. It seems to be perpetually under construction in many places.
