Here's my story
My '16 Stingray died on the highway at 55mph in 6th gear with 61700 miles on the clock. Had it flatbedded to nearest Chevy dealer, the next day they presented me with a detailed parts list and pricing to replace the engine for $19000. When I questioned this the tech simply pulled the dipstick from the cold engine and said see, no oil, you need a new engine.
I sent the car, the next morning to my regular service dealer Bryner Chevy. Only after paying the first dealer $550 for "diagnostics"
Spence, then pulled the valve covers and found #4 intake valve was missing. He then pulled the head to confirm the cylinder damage from the brkn valve spring /dropped valve.
I didn't buy my Stingray from them but I've had a good relationship with Chris Stacy in the service dept. for a few years and they said even though i was out of warranty, they would proceed step by step working with GM as if this was a warranty claim and hope for the best.
Long story short, with Bryner going to bat for me, GM agreed to pay 40% of the cost for the engine replacement. A result I had hoped for but really did not expect.
On Spences' recommendation I had him replace the clutch, flywheel , slave cylinder and waterpump while the engine was out.
Total out of pocket including the additional work was just under $11500. A lot better than the $19000 from the first dealer for just the new engine. And I had the car back in less than 30 days.
Not what I would ever expect to have to pay for a new motor on an only 4 year old Corvette but the results far exceeded my expectations.
