Default Route For Road Trip - Input Needed

In a couple of weeks I have the good fortune to be taking a road trip from MA down to the Homestead in VA. After checking the road atlases, I'm hoping you PA and NJ guys, especially if you went to Carlisle, can offer comments on the best routing for the middle part of the trip (after CT, before Harrisburg PA). I see a number of possibilities:
1 - I287 to I78 to I81
2 - I287 to I80 to I81
3 - I84 to Port Jervis, State 209 to Stroudsburg, I80 to I81
4- I84 to I81 at Scranton. This last one is a lot out of the way and I recall that I81 is permanently under construction in that area, or so it seems.
So if you have any input on traffic, construction zones, whatever, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks, Old Dog, did the first leg today (Boston to Chambersburg PA) - lots of construction, lots of trucks, lots of traffic, zero lane discipline
I think I'll use I81 to I80 to 209 on the return - swinging down by Allentown seems out of the way now that I've done it. And use the Taconic and the Pike rather than put up with I84 through CT - what an awful road that is!
Did I mention, I LOVE THIS CAR!

Stay away from I81 to I80,major construction on 80East from Long Pond,Pa to I380 7 days a week.78 to 33N to 209 will be quicker.

Wow! Thanks! That didn't show up when I looked up the PA DOT sites. I know there's construction at the I81/I78 interchange, but...
OK, we'll go back through the way we came. The frustrating thing about 22 to 33 in the Allentown area is that center divider made of Jersey barriers - they're as high as the C5 and combined with 18 wheelers on all sides it's a bit confining!

Belated followup: since I'm not much good at taking instruction, I decided to try I81 to I84 in Scranton and was pleasantly surprised. Little traffic, no construction except about 6 miles after the junction with I78. All the work around Scranton that I'd remembered was done.
Not so good, however, was the idea to avoid I84 from the NY border to Hartford by going up the Taconic. The Taconic is in at least as bad shape as I84 - very bad concrete pavement. So I added about 50 miles to my last leg and got bounced around for my trouble.
Did I mention? I LOVE THIS CAR. 26 mpg for the entire trip, highway and back roads, cruising at 75-80 on the highway. And knock on wood the rear axle leak fix seems to finally have worked after three tries.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Saw very few C5's in the course of the trip, or any Corvettes for that matter, and not one C6 sighting.
