Default C5'er thinking about moving to Manteca

Got a job offer so thinking about relocating. It is a sales job so will be traveling around Nor Cal and can live anywhere with an hour or so of Manteca. Any good recommendations? Would like to be out in the country a bit. Would like to rent a house with at least 2 car garage.

Thanks.

Well Manteca sucks in the summer it gets really hot... and good luck commuting over 580E... a huge pain M-F.
If you're going to be in the Bay Area I'd shy away from there... unless you don't mind spending 1/2 your life on the freeway.

ManSTINKA... That is a cheap place to live but not my first choice. I was raised in Tracy, left for college and decided to return and raise a family. The Bay commute at time can be a bear, but the Bay is way to crowded and over priced in my opinion. Look into Tracy or Ripon. Tracy is really growing but is still a nice clean town. Ripon is awesome but to fair from Pleasanton where I work. The biggest question is where you going to be based out of. If it is closer to Sac you also have Elk Grove. I don't know much about that area but it looks nice.

Teddy, what are house prices like in Tracy now? Median price here is now well over $1m and I'm thinking about bailing but I don't want to go to far.

A nice house in Tracy will net you about $400K in my opinion. Rent is even cheaper because of all the foreclosures. I have a buddy that just bought a brand new 3 bedroom in Mountain house which is a new town before Tracy and he paid $292K

My mother is a real estate agent in Tracy. She knows this area better then anyone I know. If you ever are interested in property out here I can set you up with her. I am sure a "family" discount will be in place. She loves what she does.

Hey, thanks for the hospitality! I see you list Henderson as a location so what gives with that?

I moved to Vegas from So Cal (Simi Valley) a couple years ago and hate it here so it's not like I'm another transplant from "back east" looking to clog up California! Just looking to get back to CA.

The office is in Manteca but I will be in sales (commercial roofing) so will be traveling all over. I can live in a number of different areas within an hour or so of the office. Would like to rent a house until I can get more familier with the area. I would like to be out in the country more so I can get some land. My place in Vegas is on 1/4 acre with 2 two car garages and a 20 X 40 shop in the back. Prices in So Cal are crazy but I looked on realtor.com at Modesto to Stockton and they didn't seem too bad. I will take a trip up there in a couple weeks to look around.

Teddy, does your mom handle rentals?

Not so much the weather as Vegas itself. They call it "sincity" for a reason! And the fact that there is no green here, all dirt and rocks.
