I was wondering if there are any drifting schools around the bay area and about how much they cost? I'm interested in getting involved in this and learning how it's done. I consider myself a pretty decent driver, but I know I have lots of room for improvment. I'm also scared to go practice in the Z on city streets and hit something...anybody know of anywhere?
Try the Thunderhill web site and look for event dates that might match
what you want. They added a big skid pad area and I know there was
drifting practice at one track event I attended.

drifting looks like a lot of fun but at $900 for a set of rears on my car ill have to pass....
I talked to these guys once at TH and they use old hard tires with not much tread. You could probably go to a tire shop and pick up some old ones they were just going to throw away for less than $900...

Good thing I still have my factory originals with 4/32" left on them. Thanks for the advice on TH guys. I'm definately going to be looking into this.

I have two at work that came off a red "MEENZ06" that I will sell rear cheap.
ThunderHill is a great place to go and practice drifting. A buddy at work took his old RWD Corolla up there for the "Drift and Grip" day. The front half of the track was for the road racers that wanted to grip and the back half was for the drifters.
If you thought that was something watch this. It it easy to drift in a circle on wet pavement, this is on dry pavement on a racetrack. Warning a Cadillac CTS-V not a Corvette...

That is nothing compared to this guy. Watch for a couple minutes. He's good!
Is it just me or does that thing look a bit like Optimus Prime from the front?
See the cab flexing back and forth . . . man I don't want to be that far off the ground in a tight turn.
Cool vid . . .
On the skidpad at TH the vette was a bit ho hum. Just turn in and get on the throttle. Swing the rear out as wide as you want with your right foot. Incredibly hard on the rubber when its dry. My bimmer's a whole nutha story. Understeers like crazy. It aims for the fence when you enter a corner too hot.
Hey Doug . . . is #504 back on the street or you still slummin' in the Caddie? When you going to the track?
FM
Hey Fred,
I got it back Feb 13th, took one small trip to Suisun and then up in the foothills (twisty roads). Today I was going to MSI for my normal Saturday fix and the clutch started acting up. Had one of the mechanics check it out and it wasn't my imagination. I decided to leave it there so they could fix it. The next track I will have her on will be Daytona International Speedway, just parade laps but it is Daytona, once in a lifetime. Each one of us will have out picture taken in the winners circle, I can see a new Avatar in my future. I'm getting her detailed toward the end of the month then a few days later the clear bra goes on. I plan on getting back to TH mid May to June. Hope to see you up there.
ps: remember to not fry your brakes...
Oh yea, talking about slummin' in the Caddie, it's also #504
