Default WTB Rear Diff :(

Well it might have finally got me. I have had hundreds of transactions on this board and have hooked up a chit load of people in the process, but it looks like I might have just got had. Which really sucks for me right now. As you my know I had the 4.10 go south at Corvette Magic. I got a great deal on a 3.42 rear here and installed it. I was not really happy with the gears so I passsed on the same great deal I got to another local member. Now all seems well. I got to the FS section and find a 3.90 rear FS. Guy has been trying to sell it for over a year initally wanting payment before pulling it, etc... well he gets it out and I just on it even though I am reluctant for the price ($800) Needless to say last night my Cousin and I (He is a GM service Tech) start the install and I ask him to look over the rear end. We try turning it on the bench and are having a tough time. I put one of the axels in and get about 1/2 a rotation and it binds up. I am litterally using all my strength to turn it and nothing. If I back it up and get momentum it will spin. Cousin is sure it will as he says " Howl like a bad dog" We pull off one of the covers and get what I think is the pinion out. We can see both the ring and pinion gear. They are not cracked or broken but dont look perfect either. Bearings from the naked eye look o.k. He is sure this thing to say the least has been hammered on. So here I am in the middle of the summer with a bad rear diff and not $$$ to fix it. What a fricking heart breaker. Anyone out there have a rear diff that is in working condition??? At this point obviously I will take a 3.42

Hey Teddy, saw this on craigslist a while back. Seems like he has had it up for a long time. Might be a good temp fix until you can get something going.

Default Differential woes

Teddy,
I just had MSI swop out my 03 Z06 differential for an 08 Z51 that I sent to Rockland Standard Gear for 3.90s.
The diff has 66K on it. I use but do not abuse my car. If you are interested call Terry or Mark and then call me. I'll PM my number. I might be there tomorrow morning (Sat) to pick my extra parts and pieces.

Steve
