Default Spark plug question

Hey guys,

Just bought a 2003 Z06 Black with 32,500 miles. The spark plugs were never changed. I was thinking to change them because after watching the owners video it said they are good for 100,000 miles or 5 years.

Anyone know of the top of their head what plugs the Z06 runs stock and what gapping?

Also, can anyone recommend a local shop and possibly a guess of how much it would be to change them? I looked at the spark plug wires and it looks like its a pretty tight reach.

Thanks guys!

Do not use aftermarket plugs in mostly stock NA applications, especially NGK. They work good in FI and wild NA applications, but not for stock. I have seen a ton of SES lights and misfires lately caused by NGK plugs. Carbon tracking, missing electrodes and other issues have been more common lately. There is nothing wrong with the factory plugs. Katech and many other good builders actually use them in many of their builds.

At 32K your stock plugs are probably in great shape. I ran mine to 75K, while I didn't check the gaps they looked good.
I have heard horror stories of high mileage plugs seizing in the heads but mine came right out.

It is not the mileage I was concerned about, it is the age since it is a 2003 and it is past the stated life of 5 years. Car runs fun just want to be on the safe side.

It would be a great help if you filled out your profile. When you ask for a local shop, we need to know - local to where? The recomendation might be different if you are in Chico than it would be if you are in Monterey.

The plugs in the car are fine. Leave them alone. I changed mine at 130K miles and they still looked great. BTW - I went with stock irridiums from AC Delco. I'll never change them again. It's just not a wear item anymore.

Before I got my 03 Z a few years ago, I had a 99 SS Camaro with the LS1. I changed the stock GM plug out 100K and again at 220K. Stay with stock and don't worry about them until ~ 100K miles.
